Dragonlance playtest materials released for Dungeons & Dragons

Rumors that the Dragonlance setting will be returning to 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons were all but confirmed on Tuesday when publisher Wizards of the Coast released a new packet of playtest materials. The Unearthed Arcana bundle: Heroes of Krynn includes one new race and one subclass. It also contains a variety of similar feats.

Download the Heroes of Krynn bundle for absolutely free. It includes rules for creating a kender, Krynn’s version of the classic halfling race. You will also find rules to create the Lunar Magic Sorcerer Subclass. Dragonlance also has two new background backgrounds. The Knight of Solamnia (left) and the Mage for High Sorcery (right). Wizards indicated that, as with all playtest materials, that these rules are “in draft form, usable in your D&D campaign but not refined by final game development.”

Originally created by Laura Hickman and Tracy Hickman during a cross-country road trip, the Dragonlance setting became a key product line for D&D’s original publisher TSR throughout the 1980s and into the 1990s. Dragonlance fans are most familiar with a series written by Tracy Hickman (and Margaret Weiss) in 1984. Dragons of Autumn Twilight. Following a lawsuit for $10 million against Wizards of the Coast in 2020, the novelizations made headlines again. However, those problems were finally resolved. A new Dragonlance Trilogy was officially announced Jan. 20, 2021. The first book will be released on January 20, 2021. Dragons of DeceitAugust 9th is the date for this event.

This isn’t the first bit of older content rumored to be getting a reboot for 5th edtion. Wizards also released Unearthed Arcana last year that suggests the return to the Spelljammer setting.
