Disneyland’s Splash Mountain is also closing, with a final date in May
Splash Mountain, Disneyland Resort Anaheim in California will close on May 31. The ride, based on the controversial Disney live-action/animation hybrid film Song of the SouthThis attraction, which was originally built in 1895 by the Germans, is being renovated. The Princess and Frog, called Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
In January 2023, the Splash Mountain attraction at Walt Disney World Orlando, Florida was closed. It will also become Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, with a reopening planned in 2024.
This new ride concept is a Mardi Gras themed adventure that will be hosted by Princess and the Frog The characters of Princess Tiana (and Prince Naveen) It will take parkgoers on a ride through a bayou, and its creators describe it as a “love letter to New Orleans.” On Wednesday, additional details on the ride arrived, including the reveal of a new character: Mama Odie, the movie’s 197-year-old voodoo priestess, will appear on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and will be played by Jenifer Lewis, who voiced Mama Odie in the film.
Based on the 1946 Disney movie, Splash Mountain’s original rides were created. Song of the South It has been criticised for portraying a glorified version of slavery, and the reductionist depiction of Black characters. The renovation was planned for many years. Disney announced plans to remake the ride’s design in June 2020.
