Discord’s new premium memberships give content creators VIP features

Discord announced Tuesday that it invited a number of creatives to participate in a beta program for premium members. The announcement follows several new features that have been added to Discord’s social platform, such as threads and community stage.

Discord Nitro can be used as a personal membership. Discord Premium memberships, however, are run by Discord creators. A certain level of pay is required to unlock additional chats, chats, and other server features. While this is available through Patreon and other sites, premium Discord memberships allow for it to be accessible. For creators that use Discord to host their streams, this could be a useful feature. Discord is being used more by streamers than to maintain a public stream.

“Discord is a place for everyone to find belonging, and we believe that Premium Memberships will help communities sustainably create that belonging for the long run,” the company said in its announcement.

Discord claims it may make adjustments to its premium memberships, based upon feedback received throughout beta.

Follow-up information will be provided to creators invited for testing the feature over the next few weeks. Discord does not have a date for the feature to go live to the public; it plans to release “more information about when and how we may expand the feature to more communities on Discord” next year.
