Destiny 2: Lightfall’s new rodeo Hunter stole the TGAs for Destiny fans

If video games have taught us anything over the past few years, it’s that grappling hooks are the most exciting new feature you can add to a franchise.

Destiny 2: Lightfall, the MMO’s 2023 expansion, will let Guardians swing around on a grappling hook with their new Strand powers, which Bungie originally unveiled back in August. But in the expansion’s latest trailer, which debuted at The Game Awards 2023, players got to see some grappling hook gameplay that confirmed that Guardians can grapple to anything — even their fellow Guardians.

The new trailer ends with the cinematic moments and we then see the Thundercrash titan take off using its Super. Thundercrash Titan is now a super added in. Destiny 2: ForsakenThis causes the Titan to transform their body into an missile. They can fly in the air and crash into anything. The super isn’t new, but the Hunter using their grapple to hitch a ride on the Thundercrash is.

Bungie has a knack for making flashy trailers. As the Thundercrash Titan glides towards a group enemies, the Hunter can fly with them through the air. Both of the pair land and begin kicking each other. The Hunter even tries to grab an opponent Cabal and performs a melee execution.

Although the Rodeo Hunter is undoubtedly the star of this trailer, there are many interesting Strand tidbits as well as possible teases (plus lots of images of Neomuna).

Two seconds in, we witness a Hunter smash into the ground. All the Cabal surrounding them rise into the air after they touch the ground and stay suspended. We see this same effect later on in the trailer where a handful of Cabal are levitating — trapped by Strand — around a Warlock standing in a Rift.

We see the Titan firing what looks like green bullets from a brand new gun during a gunplay segment that starts 23 seconds into trailer. The use of green bullets may not be outof place in this trailer. Destiny 2 trailer, but bullet color typically matches that of the weapon’s element. In the age of Legendary Stasis, it took almost a year for Legendary Stasis weapon to be available. Beyond LightThis makes it appear that Guardians can get Strand weapons very quickly in Lightfall. We also witness a Titan launching a Towering Barricade shortly after Thundercrash, which causes an enormous blade to rip out in front them. This is to seek out Cabal targets nearby.

Just shy of the minute mark we see all three classes cast their new Strand Supers, which we’ve mostly seen before. However, this trailer does seem to confirm that the Titan’s new blade-hands Super is yet another roaming Super ability — something Titan players already pretty familiar with. Hunter Rope Dart Super seems to have an enormous swing radius. This allows Guardians to easily slash a group Cabal, and Warlock Super summons lots of homing missiles.

The trailer’s rest is mainly focused on the story and filmic moments rather than gameplay. The trailer does show a Titan punching through a window. This animation is a mirror of many of Titan’s shoulder charge capabilities and it will most likely be one the Strand melee options.

There are many other exciting moments in the trailer that you should check out. If you’re interested in a longer breakdown, we recommend checking out Aztecross’ analysis video.
