DDoS attack hits FF14’s North American servers
Final Fantasy 14 Square Enix has enjoyed a brief moment of sunshine as people flock to its popular MMORPG with critically acclaimed story content. But Square Enix has encountered a snag — the game has been, at times, Too popular. A recent DDOS attack is compounding that problem, and some players aren’t able to get into the game as a result.
One post in the official forum identified the issue, stating that the problem began Tuesday evening. This has led to the following issues for North American players.

At this point, nobody has been held responsible for the attack. Director Naoki Yoshida revealed in July that the planned expansion of North American data centres would be delayed for several months because there was a shortage of semi-conductor. Two stages are planned for the expansion. One will commence in November while the other will continue during spring or summer 2023.
