Critical Role campaign book on the way from the publishers of D&D
Critical Role’s first full-length Dungeons & Dragons campaign book will be published by Wizards of the Coast on March 15, 2022. Matthew Mercer was the series’ creator. Call of the Netherdeep – Critical RoleIt will feature story elements that link to previous Critical Role campaigns. This play series will include new mechanics, which are not available in other plays. On Tuesday, the announcement was made.
The official description says: The Call to the Netherdeep will begin at level three in Ank’Harel, a “glimmering oasis-city” on the continent of Marquet (also the setting for the troupe’s third full campaign, premiering on Oct. 21). From there it will transition to the Netherdeep, described as “a terrifying cross between the Far Realm and the deep ocean.”
“Above it all, the red moon of Ruidus watches,” the description continues, “twisting the fates of those who have the power to shape the course of history. Fans will find that the greedy of mortals has awakened the powerful entity that was long believed destroyed. A mighty champion for the gods that had been kept in exile in Exandria since the beginning of time, his name and heroic actions have all but disappeared. Languishing in despair, he calls out for new heroes to save him.”
James J. Haeck will join Mercer as a designer.Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount Waterdeep: Dragon Heist) and Wizards’ lead story designer Chris Perkins. This book contains seven chapters that detail new magical items and creatures. Dungeon Masters will face off against a second party of characters who are not players. Level 12 should be attained by the players.
Created in 2012, the Critical Role troupe has grown to become one of the world’s premiere actual play series with more than 1,000 hours broadcast across multiple campaigns. This isn’t the first collaboration between Wizards and Critical Role. They partnered in 2020. Explorer’s Guide to WildemountA sourcebook that allows players to make their characters and have adventures in Critical Role. A sourcebook is also available. Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn, is due out around the same time and will be self-published by the troupe’s Darrington Press imprint.
