Craft Time: Make A Thanksgiving Day Chocobo Hat

It’s 4pm on Thanksgiving Day. You’re probably stuffed with turkey right now, or in the process of stuffing yourself with turkey, or still waiting to stuff yourself with turkey. If you’ve ever eaten ham, it is time to get out. What does that mean? It’s time to make hats!

An old tradition of Thanksgiving is to make turkey hats. It’s not hard to see why; turkey hats combine two of our favorite things: food and fashion. Your head will look larger, and people will be convinced that you have a huge brain.

The life and soul of any party is the hat-wearing person. You need to see this picture of Spock. This is Spock’s picture.

He is a very boring man. What if we put a hat on this guy?

Instant party animal This guy is your chance to be one! But instead of making the traditional Turkey hat for Thanksgiving, why not make a hat using gaming’s first bird: the Chocobo.

Chocobo hat making can be a family-friendly activity. It’s also practical. If that annual post-meal brawl breaks out, you’ll already be armed with scissors. Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

  • All colors of construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue (edible).
  • Your older cousins’ unspoken disapproval
  • Kenny Loggin’s Top Gun Soundtrack

Begin by cutting a piece of yellow paper into a large circle (don’t worry it can’t feel anything.)

Here’s how a circle looks:

The next step is to cut out the beak and eyes. Here is what you’re aiming for:

If your uncle begins screaming about how his ex-wife wrecked his boat or your nephews start a backyard wrestling match in the living room, crank up Kenny Loggin’s “Danger Zone” and shut out the sound of smashing dishes.

Next, putting it all together.

Family life can be challenging. Your mom is screaming at you for the garbage to be taken out. Is your Dad yelling at you, because he doesn’t want you to cut off all the cat’s hair? Do you hear an old man complaining about how you entered his home and took his war bonds. They are not listening. They don’t understand you. You’re an artist. These war bonds are necessary to create your Chocobo cap.

It’s time to put the whole thing together. Attach your eye and beak to the circle. Wrap your Chocobo head around it with a piece of war bond or paper. Add a few details to your hat. Make it unique. Give your hair some extra texture or add a bit of realism to it. Sprinkle some glitter on top if your Chocobo is full of magic and friendship.

If you’ve followed our instructions carefully, you should end up with something like this:

You have it. It is now possible to enjoy all the joys and wonders of Thanksgiving. Throw away the unused scraps of paper (ignore their cries for mercy; they weren’t good enough to make the cut.) Now, go have some pie and hug your grandma – not only will she be freaked out by your new hat, she’ll won’t know what to make of this random affection.

Don’t forget to keep in mind that if you are bored you can make Chocobo hats later for your pet.
