Cover Reveal – Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Nintendo released Super Mario Bros. Wonder on June 15, the first 2D Mario game consoles have seen since Wii U was launched. In the 11 years since the last 2D game launched, we’ve received multiple re-releases, two Super Mario Maker titles, two mainline 3D titles, and even a mobile auto-runner. Super Mario Bros. Wonder marks a new chapter for the Mushroom kingdom crew after nearly 20 years of New Super Mario Bros. dominating 2D. To celebrate the impending release of this new 2D adventure on Switch, Super Mario Bros. Wonder graces the cover of our latest issue of Game Informer.

I flew to both U.S. coasts – first New York, then Seattle – to get as much info about the game as possible. Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a game I played for over two hours. In addition, I spoke with several members of the team. You’ll find exclusive behind-the scenes stories on Super Mario Bros. Wonder and hands-on experiences with levels that nobody else has experienced. There will also be a discussion about the New Super Mario Bros. franchise.

Elephant Mario appears on our cover this month. It is one of many forms in which the company mascot, along with his friends, can appear in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Shiro Muri wanted to give Mario a form where he would grow bigger. This frank representation is a tribute to the director’s original desire.

The Game Informer Gold cover features the same cover image with “Game Informer” in flashy, metallic gold. The Gold issues are also numbered to make them even more valuable for collectors.

Though Super Mario Bros. Wonder is on the cover of Issue 360, there are so many other articles worth checking out within these pages. We also have in-depth features for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Ghostrunner 2, and Palworld. Pao Yumol examines the current revival of boomer shooting games. Diego Nicolás Argüello digs into the intricacies of testing games in virtual reality. I was in attendance at Nintendo Live in Seattle and have my full report from Nintendo’s first official U.S. fan fest, while on the other side of the country, Marcus Stewart paid a visit to Universal Orlando’s new The Last of Us-themed Halloween scare house.

As usual, you’ll also find the latest previews, including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Skull and Bones, and more. We also have game reviews for games such as Mortal Kombat, Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty and Lies of P.
