Call Of Duty Will Stay On PlayStation For Now, Bloomberg Reports

Microsoft announced the impending acquisition of Activision Blizzard last week. Little has been revealed about the multiplatform titles like Diablo and Call of Duty that will be available on non-Xbox platforms. Now might be the time to breathe a sigh of relief for fans of the prolific shooter franchise who own PlayStation hardware. An article by BloombergJason Schreier says that PlayStation will continue to be an option for at least three additional Call of Duty games.

Schreier talked to a few unnamed sources about the Activision-Sony deals before the public announcement. The three titles are said to be this year’s Infinity Ward developed Modern Warfare follow-up, along with a Treyarch-helmed game, which we assume is scheduled for next year. Third place is occupied by an update of Warzone’s Battle Royale game mode. This title was launched in 2020, and it stands out as its own entity within the Call of Duty universe.

This aligns with Microsoft’s actions following its Bethesda purchase, seeing through existing deals to release games on rival platforms as originally intended. GhostWire Tokyo (Deathloop) and GhostWire Tokyo (GhostWire Tokyo), are witnessing these agreements go as they were intended. Call of Duty seems to be in good shape, although plans for Blizzard titles such as Overwatch 2 (or Diablo IV), which are assumed to have multiplatform support is still unknown. Last week, we reported on a tweet from Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, where he spoke on this very topic, saying, “Had good calls this week with leaders at Sony. After Activision Blizzard’s acquisition, I confirmed that we intend to honour all agreements and keep Call of Duty available on PlayStation. Sony is an integral part of the industry and we appreciate our partnership with them.

Microsoft’s intention, as Spencer says, is to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation, at the ones Activision already promised. Everything else, however, seems to be up in air. However, the confirmed Xbox exclusivity of Bethesda games like Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI is likely an accurate barometer of things to come for beloved Activision Blizzard franchises once these outstanding deals are fulfilled.
