Bungie won’t remove any more Destiny 2 expansions

There are often some difficult decisions to be made when you’re running an ongoing live service game. You should take into consideration Destiny 2’s “sunsetting” practice: For the past two years, starting with 2020’s Beyond Light expansion, Bungie has removed expansion content, largely, the studio said, for technical reasons. Bungie introduced new features and locations, and the bloat was reduced in this online shooter. Bungie took almost all the original content out of its online shooter in 2020. Destiny 2 content — including the base campaign — and last year it removed the ForsakenCampaign, which is primarily considered to be the expansion Destiny 2It was truly here. It meant that not only did story campaigns disappear, but entire areas and all the activities they could be pursued.

However, during today’s Destiny Showcase highlighting next year’s excellent-looking Lightfall expansion, Bungie revealed that it will no longer “sunset” old content. It’s unclear if or when some of the old content will return (Bungie didn’t comment on this). From this point on, however, nothing will change.

So if you’ve been holding this Destiny 2You can read the latest news from afar, but you don’t want to be infatuated with any new planet. There’s always the pending heat death of the universe and perhaps the inevitable server shutdown awaiting the end of Destiny 2’s remarkably long life (which will come first, who knows) but the next chapter of Destiny 2Bungie claims that it was built to last.
