BTS to go on hiatus and reunite after members perform military service

One of K-pop’s most wildly successful and globally recognized groups, BTS, will be taking a short hiatus in the immediate future. The group plan to disband briefly while its members serve their mandatory time in the South Korean military, BTS’ management company announced Monday. Once all seven of its members are eligible to serve, the group will regroup around 2025.

BTS management company, Big Hit, also said the group’s members would continue to work as solo acts during the hiatus in whatever schedule their service allows. Jin, who is nearly 30, is expected to begin his service soon. Other members may be able to wait until then and still attend the 2025 reunion.

For able-bodied males, South Korea requires that they serve 18-21 months of military service before turning 35. This news ends speculation for many years about whether BTS members will seek to be exempted from military service. However, this is something that occasionally happens to athletes and performers.

BTS might be the most loved K-pop group right now, but their popularity extends beyond just music. They are also a part of the mainstream culture. They are the most popular social media platform. Recently, the band collaborated with several video games including Fortnite Cookie Run: KingdomAs well as many movies on their various tours and concerts.
