BlizzCon 2023: All the news and announcements from Blizzard’s big show

Blizzard Entertainment’s BlizzCon is back and in-person for the first time in four years. BlizzCon takes place in Anaheim from Nov. 3-4, 2023, but Blizzard Fans can tune into the live streaming for two days.

The biggest newsmaking event took place Friday, when Blizzard held BlizzCon’s opening ceremony, a nearly two-hour event that promised “exciting announcements” for World of Warcraft, Diablo 4, Hearthstone, Warcraft RumbleOverwatch 2. Here’s everything Blizzard has announced at BlizzCon 2023, so far.

Overwatch 2’s new hero(es)

Blizzard has revealed that the next heroic hero is coming soon. Overwatch 2The Samoan Mauga tank will be arriving in the UK on Friday. The dual-chaingun-wielding Mauga is coming to Overwatch 2Fans of the series can play him early on this weekend.

Aaron Keller, Overwatch’s director, gave us a peek into the upcoming year. Overwatch 2Clash is a PvP mode that he describes as a 5-point capture game. Clash brings back a location that was reworked from the original OverwatchHanaoka, the Clash version of Hanamura (a map that was previously deprecated), is now available.

Keller promised to also overhaul Overwatch 2’s most important in-game systems, including a reworked version of Competitive play and all-new Competitive rewards. He teased themes for upcoming seasons, which will focus on Eldritch horror, Egyptian mythology, witches, and a mirror universe “where heroes become villains and villains become heroes.”

Keller also teased the arrival of two other heroes. Overwatch 2 in 2024: a new damage hero, Venture, coming in season 10, and a new support hero currently codenamed “Space Ranger,” coming in season 12.

Diablo 4’s first expansion, Vessel of Hatred

Season 2 is in full swing. Diablo 4Blizzard announced that season 3 will feature a new type weekly challenge dungeon, The Gauntlet.

It was revealed that the biggest story of all is Diablo 4’s first expansion, Vessels of HatredBlizzard revealed that in the late 2024. The new jungle area will be visited by players. Diablo 4, once again face Mephisto, and get access to a “completely new class, never seen before in the Diablo universe,” Diablo 4Production director Tiffany Wat stated.

World of Warcraft Classic

Holly Longdale is the executive producer of World of Warcraft, revealed that “a new way to play hardcore mode” in World of Warcraft ClassicThe next addition to the upcoming 2024 is a new stairway. It is the biggest upgrade for WoW ClassicLongdale said that the expansion, originally launched in 2010, will have an updated version. Longdale told reporters that World of Warcraft Cataclysm ClassicThe game will be updated based on feedback from players.

Longdale has also teased Season of Discovery, which will be released in the near future. World of Warcraft Classic, describing it as “vanilla WoW with a spicy twist,” with new secrets and class-altering abilities. Players could then become either a Mage tanker, or a Mage healer. Season of Discovery will launch on November 30.

World of Warcraft’s next expansion(s)

Chris Metzen returned to BlizzCon to discuss the future of Warcraft. World of Warcraft. Metzen devised an ambitious roadmap for the coming decade. World of WarcraftIt’s not just one expansion, it’s a whole series. That’s not just one expansion, it’s Three-dimensional (3D).

Metzen announced:

  • World of Warcraft The War WithinThe game will have players delivering justice in the subterranean Nerubian Empire;
  • World of Warcraft – Midnight, a return to the old world, sending players to the fabled lands of Quel’thalas to battle the forces of The Void;
  • World of Warcraft The Last TitanHead to Northrend to witness the Titans of Azeroth. Players will uncover an extensive conspiracy that stretches through the entire history of Azeroth and the Titans.

The War WithinReleased in 2024.

Hearthstone

Cora Georgiou, senior game designer for HearthstoneThe trailer of the film. Badlands Showdown, a new expansion which takes place in Azeroth’s version of the wild west and tells an origin story for characters Reno Jackson and Elise Starseeker.

Georgiou has also shown a brand new method for Hearthstone players to get new cards: Catch-up packs are “game changing for getting your collection caught up,” because players can get up to 50 cards from a single pack.

There’s also a new mode coming to Hearthstone BattlegroundsBattleground Duos is a cooperative game that’s new.

Warcraft Rumble

Blizzard’s mobile action-strategy combat game set in Azeroth, which creators say “harkens back to our RTS roots,” Warcraft RumbleIt’s out. The first season of mobile action games begins with the release of a tabletop version of Sylvanas Windrunner.
