Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Crossing Over With Odyssey, Year Two Roadmap Revealed

In the year since its launch, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has proven to be one of the more robust and popular installments of the long-running franchise. The number of content that was released after the release of recent entries such as Odyssey is impressive. Valhalla continues to be strong despite releasing several big-scope expansions that were successful in 2021.

The Dawn of Ragnarök is the centerpiece of that ongoing rollout, a major new expansion set to be released in late winter, aiming to add a considerable chunk of new missions, environments to explore, and even gameplay-altering new character powers. That major expansion is steering toward launch in March, but you don’t need to wait that long to get a new injection of Assassin’s Creed fun. The brand will launch tomorrow, Wednesday, December 14. It is exploring an exciting new initiative with story content that crosses between Odyssey and Valhalla.

The new Crossover Stories encompass distinct content drops in both Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The free content releases help tell a new linked aspect of the broader Assassin’s Creed fiction, touching on the elements of Isu culture that Odyssey’s fiction explored in its late-game and post-release storytelling. In the Valhalla sequence, we’ll even see Eivor meet Kassandra in person, thanks to events that shouldn’t be spoiled from the tail end of Odyssey. Both the Valhalla content and Odyssey will feature entirely new missions, many of which may be seen in previously undiscovered locations.

Players can expect a particularly large adventure in the March expansion. Origins and Odyssey were the first to offer expansions that go beyond the traditional mythological realm. It was so well-received that Valhalla’s core game included many important ties to Norse mythology. These included explorations in Asgard and Jotunheim where crucial revelations revealed the connection between Eivor and Odin. Dawn of Ragnarök is continuing that narrative thread as Odin sets out on a journey into the realm of the dwarves, called Svartalfheim. His task? His mission? To rescue his son Baldr from Surtr’s clutches, the god of Fire Giants.

Svartalfheim offers a large new gaming area, roughly one-third of what the whole England region is in the base game. An early glimpse of the gameplay shows a lavish fantasy world with sprawling underground dwarven factories and snow-capped mountains, as well as plenty of appropriately grave dwarven statues, monuments, and other features.

Players will be fighting as Odin and must face various foes, such as the Jotnar, a frosty Jotnar. They are now the new arrivals: the Muspels flame giants. These fire giants can be dangerous in battle and have forced the dwarves to flee their houses and hide.

The Hugr-Rip is a magic bracer that the dwarfs have given to Odin. Odin can now take on all the powers of his foes. Many of these new abilities are particularly powerful. Odin has the ability to transform into a raven and descend upon enemies far from home for an assassination attack. Ice can also be added to weapons. The bow power allows players the ability to teleport to any location. Also, you can raise fallen enemies for your fight.

Dawn of Ragnarök is boasting 35 hours of new content – if true, that’s larger than many early Assassin’s Creed games were in their entirety. Ubisoft promises that, in addition to the new storyline, there will be a new arena where players can practice their combat skills against an increasing number of obstacles.

You can enjoy the new expansions details right after a new surprise content item. The new Crossover Stories is a fascinating experiment in which new missions have appeared in both Valhalla and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The linked stories offer fresh revelations about the broader Assassin’s Creed fiction when played in tandem. We see Eivor and prior hero Kassandra meet up in person, thanks to events we won’t spoil from the conclusion of Odyssey.

Based on the release cadence from previous games, it would have been easy to presume that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was beginning to wind down. Ubisoft’s announcement today shows they are still heavily investing in the game. This includes the soon to be released crossover stories as well as the March expansion. Whether we’ll even more from the game after that remains to be seen, but Viking warriors should rejoice that we’re not quite done with Eivor’s adventures yet.
