FIFA 22 Ultimate Team removes Russian players, clubs, and items

Players on Russian soccer clubs, their kits, those teams’ managers, and other Russian items are no longer available in FIFA Ultimate Team’s card packs, EA Sports told players this week.

In an announcement greeting players at login, players are told that a variety of Russian players and branded items are no longer available “in line with real world actions taken by our partners at FIFA and UEFA.” Last week, EA Sports’ FIFA 22 And NHL 22 also removed Russian national teams from their lineups, corresponding to world sports bodies’ expulsion of Russian teams and competitors from several events at the end of February. The bans were implemented as a response to Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine.

“EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian People and like so many voices across the world of football, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine,” the statement said.

FIFA Ultimate Team is a huge moneymaker for Electronic Arts. Players create all-star football teams from players of different countries and clubs. They outfit the players in different uniforms and decorate their stadiums using banners and tifos. You can acquire these items by randomly drawing in cards packs. Players who have acquired them can also auction them off, for in-game currency, in FUT’s Transfer Market.

EA Sports confirmed that Russian-themed items can be retained by players who purchased them in the past. Their exchange prices will be set on the Transfer Market to avoid any profiteering.

The items in question are, according to Tuesday’s message:

  • Russian Clubs – Player Products
  • Russian Clubs Kit Items
  • Stadia, Stadium Items and other items from Russian clubs as well as the national team
  • Russian Manager League Consumable Products
  • Items for managers from the Russian Premier League

EA Sports stated last week that they would be removing the Russian and Belarusian national teams from their games. FIFA 22Also available in English NHL 22). But Russians who play in non-Russian leagues are apparently still available in FIFA Ultimate Team’s card packs.

Electronic Arts announced that it will no longer be selling its content or games in Russia and Belarus while war in Ukraine continues. That followed an appeal from Ukraine’s deputy prime minister, Mykhalio Fedorov, specifically to video game companies like Microsoft and PlayStation, to stop selling in Russia.

This is on top of the other sanctions that have been imposed since the invasion began by the United States, European Union and others. Paramount, Apple and Warner Bros. as well as the petroleum giants Shell, BP, have also stopped Russian operations.
