Smallville animated spinoff reportedly on the way from Tom Welling

Smallville may soon see Clark, Lois and Lex return. According to Tom Welling, series star and Vancouver Fan Expo host, a sequel animated series is in the works. While the project doesn’t have everyone on board just yet, Welling wants the original cast and creators to return for the new show.

Welling’s Smallville co-star Michael Rosenbaum was the first to discuss and develop the idea for an animated series. Rosenbaum played Lex Luthor in Smallville. When they were preparing a pitch for Warner Bros., the two first floated the idea of the series. However, the studio has yet to make an official announcement regarding the series.

It was envisioned that animated television series would continue the story after it. Smallville. While we don’t know much else, Welling did provide a few clues about what the story could involve.

“I think there’s a story that Al [Gough]Miles [Millar] are going to tell that’s individual and new and call it a multiverse thing,” Welling said during the fan convention. He suggested testing animation to make the show possible.

While it sounds like Smallville creators and Al Gough and Miles Millar are both on-board with the project, they aren’t working on anything yet. The two remain in production on the animated Addams Family spinoff, which Tim Burton directed. WednesdayThe resulting series was called ‘The Netflix Experience,’ which the two created together. Polygon reached out to Gough and Millar’s representatives for further clarification and confirmation of their involvement.

Of course, the creators aren’t the only members of the original team that Welling wants to recruit for the new series. Welling told Vancouver Fan Expo that Welling wants to bring back the majority of the cast, which includes John Glover, Sam Jones III and Erica Durance. Erica Durance was the actress who played Lois Lane. Welling pointed out in Vancouver that Allison Mack will not be returning to the series due to her imprisonment for involvement in the NXIVM sect.
