Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom’s Shrine Of Light Sensor Is Ruining My Life

The Shrine of Light Sensor Sound Effect in The Legend of Zelda : Tears of the Kingdom has me losing my mind with its two-beeps per second. It’s not because the sound is annoying or constant, but because I want to hear the noise as I search for the final few Shrines. Now, when I hear it, it points to a Shrine so obscure, that I must spend hours looking for it.

The bright green spiral that I see from a distance is no longer a friendly sight. Each one has been found. When I look out in the distance I can see the green doors that indicate a shrine I’ve already found. Each time I see a green door, I think that I am finally discovering a new Shrine, before I realize I’ve already seen it dozens of other times.

Already been there

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

At this point, I have resorted to using Hero’s Path Mode and the general layout of the Shrines I have already found to ballpark locations where a Shrine might be. If I haven’t walked through there yet and there are no Shrines in the immediate vicinity, I head in that direction and hope for the best. It has led to the discovery of new Shrines 15% of the times.

On the occasions when I do hear that beautiful couplet beep alerting me a Shrine is nearby, my heart skips a beat and I alert everyone in my household to quiet down while I start the process of sniffing out an elusive shrine that can’t be seen from the surface. Last night, I circled the Veiled Falls of Zora’s domain for two hours as the beeping sound slowly bore its way into my skull. I found six cave entrances on the mountain east of Zora’s Domain. Each opening inspired certainty that I had finally found my Shrine, only to be rewarded with a Bubbul Gem, of which I no longer need as I have purchased all of Koltin’s goods. At this point, he wants all of them, and I don’t care enough to do him that favor. The sixth cave entrance was where I finally found the Shrine that I had been searching for.

I’ve reached a stage where the beeps that Shrine emits when dogs bark violently at me for invading on their territory are now the sound of my neighbors. When I look at the aquariums at PetSmart in my neighborhood, all that comes to mind are potential Shrine locations or ways to ascend higher. Maybe there is a Shrine I missed that I can see from the top of that Nate & Jeremia™ Wood Tower.

Perhaps worst of all, my Ring security system, which sounds a gentle beep whenever a door opens in my home, uses a sound effect called “Navi” that sounds remarkably similar to the Shrine beep from Tears of the Kingdom. Each time I leave the house to take the dog out or open the front door, I must remind myself that there isn’t a Shrine in the vicinity. You won’t find a Shrine on your trip to Target for butter and sparkling water. You can calm down.

Tears of the Kingdom gives me 35 hearts. I also have full stamina. I don’t know how many Shrines I have left, and I refuse to look up any hints of any kind. The statues that represent Rauru, his wife Queen Sonia and their children will, just like Breath Of the Wild’s, let me know when I find them all. They will also offer me rewards that I won’t use, because at that time I am done with the game.

Maybe it’s time to look up a walkthrough. You can also just continue talking with Patricia. Glorious Master Kohga!
