Your Name director’s next movie, Suzume, hits theaters in April

Crunchyroll announced Tuesday, along with Sony Pictures Entertainment that Crunchyroll would be joining forces. SuzumeThe latest anime in fantasy adventures Your nameAnd Weathering With YouDirector Makoto Shinkai will release the film in US and UK cinemas on April 14. Film opened in Japan Nov. 11 and sold 1.33 Million tickets. It earned 1.88 Billion yen ($13.49 million) its first three days.

Suzume is a coming-of age film that follows her story as a girl of 17 years living in Kyushu. She meets Souta who is a wanderer looking for the secret door to the other world. Souta transforms into a chair when he tries to shut one of the doors. Suzume and Souta must team up as they journey across Japan to find the door.

While not confirmed, it’s heavily implied from the trailer that SuzumeTakes place in the exact same universe as Your nameAnd Weathering with you. We’ll have to wait until the film comes out in theaters to see if that theory bears out, but from the looks of its new trailer, Suzume Shinkai is poised to become a major commercial and critical success.

SuzumeOn April 14, the premiere will take place in U.S. theatres.
