Xbox Game Studios Game Camp Africa starts on July 15

Microsoft’s Africa Transformation Office has launched Xbox Game Studios Game Camp Africa. This two-day event will recognize and honor all the game developers from more than fifty different countries. This year’s conference is scheduled for July 15.^{The th}The 16th century^ThApplications are now open. 

Xbox Game Studios Game Camp brings together various Xbox initiatives in a single initiative, where talents are celebrated and game developers empowered to follow their dreams. Game Camp is available to all campers registered online. However, Game Camp also hosts two walk-in sites for campers over the course of the three day event in Microsoft Cairo or Johannesburg. They will host viewing parties, panel sessions on site and the chance to meet Microsoft and Xbox employees. Teams or individuals who have games they want to present are also encouraged to do this. 

The Xbox Game Studios Game Camp, now in its fifth year and second event, aims to help creators around the globe realize their full potential within the gaming industry by providing them with unique learning opportunities from leading industry experts.  

“At Xbox, we’re on a mission to bring the joy and community of gaming to the world’s 3 billion gamers and we recognize that Africa is home to the largest population of youth in the world, many who love to play. In 2019, I visited the Africa Development Centre to meet with educators and game developers in the region. We discussed their future visions for gaming. Through the inaugural Xbox Game Studios Game Camp Africa, in collaboration with Microsoft’s Africa Transformation Office, we have an opportunity to continue to deepen our relationships with talented developers in region and help African games studios realize their vision and role in the global gaming industry,” said Phil Spencer, CEO, Gaming at Microsoft.

Participants must have reached legal age and reside in any African country. They can also be either studying, working, or both in software development, the visual arts, audio and 3D, web design or narrative design. The official site has a complete list.

Xbox Game Studios Game Camp Africa, July 15, 2015.^{The th}The 16th century^ThParticipants can join the training remotely using Microsoft Teams, or in person in four locations: Cairo, Johannesburg Lagos and Nairobi. Xbox staff and program partners from external programs will run workshops covering various topics in game development. The two full days are themed “The Journey of a Game” and will offer multiple perspectives on the many times complex craft of game development. There will be a large online component to the camp that will enable participants to interact with training modules tailored to their specific skills and interests before and after event.
