Xbox backward-compatibility update adds 76 games for Xbox One, Series X
Microsoft is celebrating the Xbox’s 20th anniversary by making another 76 games, from the original Xbox and Xbox 360, backward compatible on current Xbox consoles. They will also support Auto HDR for the Xbox Series X. The resolutions will increase for both it and Xbox One.
This list includes bestsellers such as the Max Payne Trilogy; fans favorites like Red Dead Revolver, Gladius, TimeSplittersFuture PerfectPop culture relics such as 50 Cent: Blood on the SandFromSoftware obscurities OtogiAnd Otogi 2And mainstream controversies, like Manhunt.
Backward compatibility was put on hold in June 2019; Peggy Lo, Xbox’s compatibility program lead, called this surprise batch the “latest and final addition” to Xbox’s backward compatibility program, which was announced at E3 2015 and brought Xbox 360 games to Xbox One the following autumn. This program also included original Xbox games.
Additional to Auto HDR (with support displays) on Xbox Series X or Series S consoles original Xbox games will see a 4-fold increase in resolution on Xbox Series X/Xbox One X. A 3x resolution improvement on Xbox Series S and a 2x resolution increment on Xbox One S.
Eleven games were included in the list (Fear and Fear 3., Binary Domain, Nier (which were already mentioned), will receive 60 frames per second support through the FPS Boost feature, which was introduced earlier in the year to Xbox Series X. Additionally, another 26 games the were already in the backward compatibility program will get FPS Boost support — including Fallout 3, New Vegas: Fallout, Dragon Age: OriginsAnd Alan Wake. FPS Boost is also available for 33 Xbox Cloud Gaming titles.
“Together, we’ve celebrated our passion for incredible games and proven the importance of preserving our legacy for future generations of gamers,” Lo wrote on Xbox Wire. “Compatibility and game preservation are core to the DNA of Team Xbox and our community.”
