Horror film 2022 Choose or Die stars Iola Evans as Kayla, a broke college student and coder who stumbles upon an obscure ’80s text-based survival game supposedly tied to a still-unclaimed $100,000 prize. But this isn’t it? The Ready Player OneThink Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. Aided by her friend Isaac (Asa Butterfield), Kayla quickly discovers that the game, named “CURS>R,” is (unsurprisingly) cursed as the choices made in the game begin to bleed over into reality in increasingly more terrifying ways. Jon Foster said it in 2006’s film. Keep Your Head Up, “If you die in the game, you die for real.” Also, Robert Englund (aka Freddy Krueger) shows up as a fictionalized version of himself — neat! From the review:
It takes 84 minutes Choose or DieThis is a fast-paced film with a lot of heart. It also has strong storytelling. Kayla is given a rich inner world by Evans, an unexpected newcomer. She’s a bundle of stress and exhaustion, all fleshed out over her hardened face. Her performance begs for other components around her to feel similarly elevated, a request the film can’t complete because of its frustrating simplicity. In that regard, one of the film’s biggest offenders is the wishy-washy character Lance (Ryan Gage), who might work in the building, might be in a sexual relationship with Kayla’s mother, and is definitely her dealer, but languishes as a cartoonish trash predator who’s barely feigning believability.

Ti West’s 2022 horror film stars Mia Goth (SuspiriaMaxine Minx is an actress and producer who travels to Texas to make an adult film with Wayne Henderson (Martin Henderson). The crew is suddenly stalked by the reclusive host and threatened with physical harm. They must flee in a desperate attempt to save their lives. This is our review
Ti West isn’t content with the porn-shoot idea being turned into a horror series. However, he has bigger plans. The adult-film angle serves two purposes — it puts a meta spin on the practically mandatory nudity and adult content of R-rated slasher films, and it uses the adult industry to speak about indie filmmaking at large. First half of the movie is about independent filmmaking and the joys that come with grabbing some like-minded people and their cameras and going to remote locations to create movies. At the Q&A following the film’s SXSW premiere, Ti West spoke about the similarities between horror and porn in the 1970s — specifically, the desire to break free from studio systems and make a name for yourself, with nothing in hand but a good idea.
