What Resident Evil’s ending means for season 2
[Ed. note: Spoilers for the ending of Netflix’s Resident Evil follow.]
Resident Evil’s first season doesn’t draw heavily from the games that inspired it, but in its final moments it seems like that may change in future seasons.
The season’s near future postapocalyptic tale is wrapped up for the moment. Season finale sees the teenage versions of Jade and Billie Wesker, played by Tamara Smart (Siena Agudong), fleeing New Raccoon City, accompanied by a clone (Lance Reddick) of their father Albert Wesker. Where are they going? The fan favorite character Ada Wong first appeared in Resident Evil 2.
Andrew Dabb (showrunner) says that the showrunners have a plan to continue with future seasons. Resident Evil It is important to keep incorporating familiar characters from both the game’s present story, about Jade as a teenager and Billie in its future.
“The question becomes, how do people change?” Dabb says. “So there are characters we haven’t seen in quite a while: Jill Valentine and Claire Redfield being examples of that. How do they react in the present day to all this stuff happening?”
The table includes all the games, including the Tyrant that we see briefly but never actually get to experience. Dabb finds it even more fascinating that Resident EvilThere are two ways to interact with the characters.
“An equally interesting question, if not more interesting, is what happens 14 years, 15 years, 16 years in the future where the thing they were trying to prevent has happened? These people have lived their whole lives trying to stop these diseases. How do you feel when you are defeated? What does it look like?” Dabb asks.
While Netflix hasn’t yet renewed Resident Evil for a second season, Dabb certainly has plans for one — and much more beyond that.
“Over the course of the series, I want to bring everything in,” Dabb says. “Left to my own devices, I want Lady D, I want the plant monster, I want it all. It’s all I desire, but only judiciously. [and] responsibly over time.”
