Vesper gets its first trailer, and it feels like Moon meets Annihilation

IFC Films has released the teaser trailer of the movie’s upcoming film Vesper, and science fiction fans will see a lot in it that feels familiar — the lush, dangerous feel of Alex Garland’s Annihilation; the janky, friendly robotics of Duncan Jones’ Moon; the low-key but haunting alien feel of Denis Villeneuve’s An Arrival; the lonely girl-and-her-planet vibe of Christopher Caldwell and Zeek Earl’s ProspectThere are many more. Set after the collapse of the Earth’s ecosystem, the film follows Vesper (Chapman), a headstrong 13-year-old girl who uses her survival skills to subsist in the remnants of a strange and dangerous world with her ailing father, Darius (Brake). Vesper is left alone after an air crash and finds Camellia McEwen (a mystery woman). She agrees to assist her in finding her lost companion. In return, Vesper will be allowed safe passage to The Citadel, a dark, central location where biotech-savvy oligarchs can live comfortably. Vesper discovers quickly that Jonas, her brutal neighbor (Marsan), has been searching for Camellia and is hiding a terrible secret. It could be the key to their entire lives. Vesper finds herself forced to embark on a risky adventure and must rely upon her intelligence and bio-hacking capabilities to uncover the key to an alternate past.
