Original Story (Published on February 8th, 2002 at 5:49 PM Central)
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom may be the most anticipated Nintendo Switch title of 2023. This is undoubtedly one of the best releases of the Nintendo Switch’s history. Today’s Nintendo Direct gave us a fresh look at the gameplay and the unveiling of the Collector’s Edition. Also, the new Amiibo character starring Link was revealed. Unfortunately, there were some unwelcome news regarding the imminent launch of The Legend of Zelda – Tears of the Kingdom.
Nintendo has announced in its Nintendo Direct press release that the Zelda game will sell for $69.99. Nintendo has become the latest major publisher in the recent past to increase the price for its triple-A titles. This follows other major publishers like 2K Games and PlayStation, who started pricing their major releases at $70 with the start of the new console generation in 2020. Ubisoft as well as Xbox revealed last year that the triple-A versions of their games will be available at a cost of $70.
Nintendo was not available for comment when we reached them regarding their reasoning behind the price rise and if it will continue to be the pattern for triple-A releases in the future. This story will be updated if Nintendo releases a statement.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for Switch users starting on May 12.
