Update: Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition Available To Play And Purchase On PC Again

Update, 11/15/21:

Rockstar’s new remastered trilogy of Grand Theft Auto III, San Andreas, and Vice City, collectively known as Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, is playable once more on PC. It’s also available for purchase again.

This comes after the PC version of the trilogy was unplayable and not available for purchase beginning November 12 as Rockstar’s launcher, which must be used to play the trilogy on PC, went offline. Yesterday saw the return of the launcher, which allowed users to buy and play the game.

Rockstar made the announcement via a tweet yesterday and, in the same tweet, the company says it sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience and that it is “working to improve and update overall performance as we move forward.”

Original Story 11/12/21

If you purchased Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, you’re not actually able to play it at the moment because the Rockstar Games Launcher is down and has been down for nearly 20 hours.

First reported by IGN, Rockstar’s own game launcher went down about 18 hours ago and because that’s how PC players must access the trilogy, they aren’t able to play their new games. Rockstar has also pulled the trilogy from sale on PC so if you don’t already own it, it’s not something you can purchase at the moment.

“Services for the Rockstar Games Launcher and supported titles are temporarily offline for maintenance,” the official Rockstar Support Twitter accountYesterday’s tweet. “Services will return as soon as maintenance is completed.”

Rockstar Support tweeted out an updateAfter that initial tweet, 14 hours later maintenance continued and the launcher was down. There’s been no update since then at the time of this writing.

Other than needed “maintenance,” Rockstar has not formally announced exactly what’s wrong or what’s going on with trilogy. Maybe something went wrong with the launcher’s code or something has gone wrong in the computer version. Rockstar will update players about what has happened once the game is back online and available again for purchase.

Check out the entire track list in the trilogy while you wait. Then, read the story about Rockstar’s technical difficulties that forced them to take out a few of the cheats. You can read this article about the development of San Andreas for Oculus Quest 2 afterwards.
