Hello! We’re so pleased to be launching Harmony: The Fall of ReverieS – Available today!|S today. It’s a narrative adventure with two colorful worlds, a cast of eclectic characters, and a captivating story we hope you will all enjoy!

Harmony, The Fall of Reverie This concept was born: the ability to predict future story branches and act accordingly with your chosen choices. The idea that dreams can fuel future action, as a way to understand and analyze the complex world, which we inhabit, was born from this mechanic. From the start, we knew that the game was going to be in a futuristic setting. It would allow us to tackle current issues while still allowing us to have creative freedom.

The next step was to build Reverie, home of the ancient godlike creatures known as Aspirations. But it was also one of the most difficult. Reverie was meant to help Polly and you gain a more metaphysical, broader view of the universe.

But we didn’t want this realm to feel overly divine: it needed to be fragile, withering in the face of capitalism’s dreamless system. We also used it to bridge the divide between this expansive gaming, which allows players to make big decisions with huge consequences, and our intimate story.

The real world (Brittle) is a vibrant, colorful world with hidden social issues. On the other hand, Reverie’s lands are cold, arid, and scattered with ruins akin to our past civilizations, echoing the absence of dreams in Brittle. All of this serves to reinforce the notion that when everything seems hopeless, dreams can provide a place where you can find hope. Great things can come from nothing. Reverie acts as a guide to help Polly find her way through a complicated life. The Aspirations act as her guides in finding her own voice.

We based the Aspirations off a few mythological and psychological theories, amongst which are the Spiral Dynamics and pop culture classics like “Sandman” and “Inside Out.” They needed to be broken and feel real, not like omnipotent Greek gods. The Aspirations were given more life and character by using this theory. They became magical beings with erratic behavior who still have to deal with their community despite the fact that they are immortals. Their struggles mirror what happens in Brittle and help bind Polly’s quest with that of the Aspirations.

It was difficult for us to create two different worlds with our story system. It was difficult to balance narration between Brittle, Reverie and the other worlds. After several iterations we finally decided that Brittle would be the primary setting for the game. So, on the occasions when Reverie’s story takes the stage, it feels important – weaving threads that affect humanity – and intimate, tied as it is to Polly’s personal history.

In the very near future…
Polly, who has spent a number of years in the United States looking for her mother’s whereabouts, returns home to find that things have changed dramatically. MK, a megacorporation that controls the populace with its vast power, is putting her community in danger.  

Soon, she discovers that her gift is clairvoyance, which connects to Reverie, where the Aspirations for Humanity are: Bliss and Glory. Power, Chaos and Bond.

In this world, Polly becomes Harmony, an Oracle who has the power to choose the Aspiration that will ultimately rule over Reverie and restore the delicate balance between the deities’ world and ours.   

Humanity’s fate is on the line. What is your destiny?

DECIDE UR DÉSTINY 

Each action that you make as Polly or Harmony will have a profound impact on both worlds, and lead you to a series of narrative pathways. Augural lets you see into the future, and then explore its consequences. It is both a board game and graphical representation of Polly’s foresight.

In pursuing whichever destiny you desire, you’ll also bond with and obtain crystals from the Aspirations. The crystals will allow you to unlock new paths and crossroads in the story.

FIND THE NEW HEART OF HUMANITY 

Whichever Aspiration comes to lead Reverie, with Harmony’s help, will also become the heart of humanity. The personality of the rulers will transform Reverie, while giving our world’s people a fresh direction. 

Glory is a completely different entity from Bliss. Each has their own personality, goal, and opinion on what they think will make life better. You’ll get to know each of them as visit Reverie in your dreams as Harmony, but only you know best – as Polly – what your world needs.
