Let me first say that the Rzeszow team is thrilled about this launch. Yomi TrekS as well as with Game Pass.|S, and with Game Pass. We’re super happy we can talk about our game because we essentially poured our hearts and souls into making it.
Trek To YomiThis game draws a lot of inspiration from the so called chanbara eiga. Most people only know it as samurai oldies in the 70s and 80s. We paid a lot of attention to virtually all aspects of these movies, whether it’s the camera work, editing, or lighting.

The inspiration for almost all shots of the game came from these films, in order to achieve a similar atmosphere and style. When it came to shots, there was a lot of messing around with how they were composed. It was not enough to determine distance between planes. We also had to consider their tone weights, whether they were bright, dark, medium, or light.
Because we decided to do it. Yomi TrekIt was crucial to create a good balance between shadow and light in a black-and white game. We also had to focus on how we draw the players’ attention to certain places on the screen and always create a visually clear action area. After all, we didn’t want any obstacles that would obstruct the player’s vision in the heat of a fight.

The creation of a communication channel between players and their in-game friends was another time-consuming aspect. Remember that our options were restricted to black, white and grey. This was an area we had to struggle with at first, but I believe we finally mastered it.
It was also important to us that we kept our home. Trek To YomiHistorically accurate. Aside from doing our own research, we invited Aki Tabei Matsunaga – a historian who specializes in the Edo period – onto the project to assist us. We were greatly helped by her and the way she sparked the dialogue to match the Japanese of that period. Our game should have the same feel as old samurai movies. We tried to achieve an effect in which a non-player watches the game and initially cannot discern if it’s a movie or an actual video game.

To deepen the feeling of immersion, we also got rid of certain mechanics that are typical for 2.5D games – jumping and passing through enemies. We felt such actions would pull the player out of the setting we’re trying to embed them in. That’s why combat consists of 3 pillars in Trek to YomiTiming, stamina control and the ability to combine different styles of fighting depending on which enemy you are facing. We also wanted the gameplay to appeal to casual gamers, who enjoy the visuals and overall atmosphere of the game as well as more experienced players who want to face greater combat challenges. After each victory, we want to make sure that duel fans are satisfied.
To make a long story short, our goal is for the player to immerse themselves in our game, A to Z. It is our goal for them to be compelled by the game to complete it, much like a movie. If it’s good, there’s no way you’re not going to want to stay till the end. Unlike the movies, however, we’re giving players the opportunity to choose their own path, so choose wisely!

Again, we as the team hope that all gamers will have a lot of fun playing our game. One can’t emphasize enough how amazing the journey of making this game has been for us. Trek To YomiIt has been for us. We feel like we’ve become the ultimate weebs just by making this game. Ever wanted to be a part of a samurai movie, well now’s your chance!
Gambatte guys!
