Transport Fever 2: Console Edition is Bringing the Full Transport Tycoon Cxperience to Xbox
We’re proud to present a peek at the progress of Transport Fever 2: Console EditionWe are proud to announce that we have brought to Xbox the entire transport tycoon experience.
Transport FeverIt is highly-rated and popular franchise for transportation tycoons on PC. Its latest entry, Transport Fever 2The game delivers unprecedented detail and size in a genre that has never been seen before. You will need to create railroads, roads, water, and air lines in order to establish a profitable transportation business. In the 19th century, you connect cities and industries in order to transport passengers and cargo. You can also choose to play a completely free mode. There are challenging missions that you will face in real world transportation history.
Following the enormous success of Transport Fever 2It was obvious that the PC version of the game would be available on consoles. The console gamers will enjoy the same great experience as the PC game. In order to achieve this, the engineers at Urban Games had to pull some rabbits out of their engineers’ hats.
Always apply the most recent layer of paint
The most treasured feature of Transport Fever 2Its highly detailed vehicles are a highlight. More than 200 carefully modeled ships and trains are included in the game, with normal maps and multiple textures for each.

With 16GB of RAM and an additional GPU, you can easily have all your models and textures stored in memory on your PC. But consoles have a different design. These consoles share a common architecture that has a lower memory footprint but a high speed. Texture streaming is the key ingredient to making it run on consoles. It allows you to remove textures from models not being viewed anymore. This technology can also be used for Transport Fever 2To load all textures in the best possible resolution so that the star of the show (like the Class A3/5 steam locomotive) is always presented with their finest coat of paint.
Keep the ground in place like a console.
Trademark of Transport Fever 2These maps are huge. It was essential to give the player a sense of scale during development. It should make it possible to place high-speed trains, like the Japanese Shinkansen on maps. A highly efficient terrain rendering pipeline was designed that could handle large maps up to 120 square miles in size, with almost 1 yard detail. This is made possible by a dynamic terrain-tessellation algorithm that runs on the CPU. Although it takes up some memory, this allows the engine to render the maps on many different computers.

You can now explore the world consoles, with their well-designed graphics APIs and GPUs. The GPU tessellation function can make the most of this hardware for terrain rendering. This function generates the terrain render mesh entirely on the GPU, which saves valuable processing time. The hardware method generates more triangles but it uses less memory due to its efficiency. So vast maps can be viewed from a bird’s view high up in the sky and seamlessly zoomed in down to individual rocks on a riverbank.
Encouragement for inner architects
Finally, let’s talk about constructions, a central and defining part of the Transport Fever 2 experience. A construction is a large assembly that includes many assets. Street segments, ground decals, terrain modifications, and other elements. Think of structures like airports, train stations, docks, highway crossings, and many more. Everything you need to create a large transportation network.
It is important that players feel that they have complete control of the placement of the buildings in order to create a seamless construction experience. Constructions on a PC are usually built with the mouse. The average user of a PC is well-adjusted to using this input method. It is sufficient performant to compute the whole construction for each frame, and then place it under your cursor. On consoles however, it is best to keep the constructions in the middle of the screen, and then move the camera around the map. The camera must be moved as smoothly as possible.

This is the release date for console version of Transport Fever 2The construction preview pipeline was redesigned. While all dynamic calculations take place in the background, a static preview and underlying groundplan of the structure are displayed. Not only are constructions now completely stable in terms of FPS, but they also give feedback to the player on what environment features the construction would tear down when built.
Let’s get tycooning on console
