Top-Down Roguelike Shooter AK-Xolotl Gets September Release Date

Playstack, the publisher of AK-xolotl and 2Awesome are releasing it on consoles in September. The top-down roguelike game about a deadly axolotl with a gun will be released on PC, Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. 

The team announced this release date during today’s Future Games Show presentation with a new trailer showing more of the amphibious creature’s violent stroll through the animal kingdom, and it looks great. The game has a retro-style visual and lots of arcade action.

To coincide with today’s news, a new extended AK-xolotl demo is now live on Steam. Playstack vice president of publishing Rob Crossley says the game’s previously released demo hit almost 70,000 downloads and with player feedback from that demo, 2Awesome has “really managed to expand on some ideas and add a few new really cool features as well.” Some of those new features are present in the new demo, but Crossley says some are being held for the final release. 

AK-xolotl has five biomes with unique enemies and dozens of power-ups. There are “tons of Axolittles to find and raise” and bosses you’ll love to hate, Playstack says. 

On September 14, AK-xolotl is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch as well as PlayStation 4, Xbox One Switch, PC, and PlayStation 4.
