Tokyo Game Show 2022 will be in-person

Tokyo Game Show in person will take place in 2022 according to organizers. The event will take place in Chiba on September 15-18 at Makuhari Messe. And the theme for this year’s show is “Nothing Stops Gaming.” The event will be held by Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association in cooperation with Nikkei Business Publications and Dentsu.

“Over these two years, various fun events disappeared from our daily life, but games still lightened up our days,” the organizers said, in a release. “Games will continue to brighten up the days of everybody now and forever—this year’s theme implies such strong determination.”

TGS will return in person. However, some modifications may be made in line with COVID-19 governances. There will be a limit to the number of tickets sold, and elementary school aged children and younger will not be allowed to attend “due to uncertainties of vaccination situations among young people,” the organizers explained, in the release.

There will also be a live broadcast of the show, in Japanese with “most” programs in English as well. Other programs, such as free demo versions of some games, that were included last year can also be viewed from your home. It will include both a virtual tour as well as the TGS Virtual Reality Area.

TGS’s digital presence has been predominant for two years. The event took place entirely online in 2020. In 2021, it had mixed online and offline elements. This allowed journalists and influential people to have access.

Since 2020, a variety of major conferences and events have been affected by the COVID-19 epidemic. Many events in the industry are in transition, whether they’re online or in person. This year’s Game Developers Conference, in San Francisco, will be in-person. In January, EA announced 2022’s E3 would be held online.
