TMNT Shredder’s Revenge update adds new arcade options, retro filters

New update Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, Tribute Games’ homage to the Konami TMNT games of yore, adds even more arcade flavor, thanks to new custom rules for the game’s Arcade mode. To make it more fun, the game’s developer included virtual DIP switches. Shredder’s RevengeThis will allow you to experience the fun and financial satisfaction of an arcade operator trying to get more money out of children by making it difficult.

(If you don’t know what a DIP switch is, it’s basically a series of hardware or software modifiers that arcade cabinet owners could adjust to make games easier by, say, giving players extra health, or harder, by making in-game projectiles faster or enemies stronger.)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s RevengeThere are also a lot of visual filters that can be added to the game. These include CRT-style scanlines, slightly curved screen options, and the option of making the entire thing look like it was taped on VHS. This option adds visual noise and color distortion to the game, as well as a tracking effect (see below). It’s very well done.

Arcade mode’s new custom game options are similarly rich, letting players emulate Konami’s brand of Ninja Turtles beat-’em-ups with a free play option, tougher Foot Clan ninja enemies (who can now explode upon death!Old-fashioned supers that can drain health when they are used.

Tribute Games’ update for Shredder’s RevengeThere are also some improvements that you will appreciate. Players will now be invulnerable to throws. Online game hosts can set maximum players. Taunts can only be used to fill the Ninja Power Bar.
