Thrawn shows his face in the new trailer for Star Wars show Ahsoka

Lucasfilm did not hold back when it came to revealing what Star Wars fans could expect. AhsokaThe live-action Disney Plus show following the fan favorite Clone WarsCharacter Ahsoka, a former Anakin Skywalker apprentice and badass rogue Jedi played by Rosario Dawson around The Mandalorian: Thrawn.

The biggest bad in Star Wars lore outside of the movies gets name checked here, like in previous trailers, as “heir to the empire,” partly because that’s the name of the the Legends novel by Timothy Zahn he first appeared in, along with most of the now-defunct Star Wars Expanded Universe.

Thrawn is a character who has remained on the fringes of Star Wars media in the new canon. His story was retold through novels and the finales of Star Wars RebelsIn these stories, he is not yet the powerful antagonist he becomes in. In these stories, he hasn’t yet achieved the stature and power that he wields in The Heir of the Empire, but he’s on his way — and Ahsoka looks like it’s going to be partially about what happens when he gets there.
