In celebration of our Horizon Forbidden West cover story, which digital subscribers read now, we’re letting you get a look at the new screens Guerrilla Games shared with us for the story. The exclusive use of these images was granted to Game InformerFor our 12-page long feature, we highlight some aspects of the discussion.
For some context for the images below, they mostly feature a new area called the Daunt, which is a canyon at the eastern edge of Sundom (Carja territory). This new settlement acts as an onboarding area to get players up to speed with the game’s new mechanics. This is Aloy’s final stop before heading to the Forbidden Wild. These screens also provide a view of a market and tavern to show off the more lively locales.
Finally, we’ll be taking a closer look at the Burrower machine, which is an evolution of Horizon Zero Dawn’s Watcher. This common recon machine can tunnel underground and resurface in unexpected locations. If it senses danger it makes a loud, high-pitched noise to summon allies or stun its enemies. Mathijs de Jonge is the game director. “We wanted to give more character to the machines of Horizon Forbidden West so that the Burrowers can be very much like weasels or otters.
