The Sims 4’s Create-a-Sim now lets players choose pronouns
Electronic Arts has added customizable pronoun options Sims 4The publisher made the announcement Tuesday. Players first saw the feature in January. However, it is now available. You can find the update here. Sims 4’s Create-a-Sim feature, players will be able to choose pronouns — they/them, she/her, or he/him — or create their own, albeit with a tiny bit of extra work.
Electronic Arts posted in a blog posting that although the English-language pronoun option is currently not available, they say more languages will soon be.
Creating or customizing a Sim’s pronoun is as easy as changing other details about a Sim. Start by creating a Sim. The “Hello, my name is …” button up top is now “Hello, my name and pronouns are …”. If you click on that, an input screen will pop up where you can choose pronouns or make your own — if you choose the second option, you’ll have to input a few different forms, like subjective and objective forms, of the pronouns. (Electronic Arts said it’s got a guide to help with that.)
Sims 4You will then be prompted to input the pronouns that you want for your Sims. Previously, the game used pronouns attached to body type — using either the male or female gender symbols to choose. The panel offered more options than the standard ones, allowing players to select whether Sims want masculine or feminin clothes and can even get pregnant. 2016 saw these changes. Gender-diverse players had the option to choose from these options. Players who created Sims that weren’t male or female needed to have them misgenerated during gameplay and through pop-ups. Sims 4 FFor example, whenever a Sim returns home from work, pronouns will be used in a popup. Sims may also sometimes be called by gendered terms. Players who adjust pronouns in this update will notice them changing throughout the game.
Sims 4 still has gendered words like “Policeman” or “Policewoman,” Electronic Arts wrote in an FAQ, noting that the team has “work to be done to make the game more inclusive of all genders.”
