The New ID@Xbox Developer Acceleration Program Will Empower Underrepresented Creators

It aims to give underrepresented creators access to the necessary information and resources to help them bring creativity, innovation, or originality to Xbox.

Xbox wants to make gaming more accessible to billions of gamers. We are constantly seeking developers who have unique perspectives in order to make games that meet the needs of different audiences.

2019 was a year when we recognized an opportunity to make Xbox more games by under-represented developers. To ensure new developers could bring their unique games to Xbox, the team created funding. We offered teams non-recoverable funding that would help them offset the costs of porting their game. This initiative has enabled 100 new independent developers to pay for the porting of their games on Xbox. Players can now enjoy games like Onsen Master, ValiDate And Paper Ghost Stories 7PM

Today we announce publicly the [email protected]The Developer Acceleration program. The program’s mission is to empower underrepresented creators with the resources and information needed to bring their creativity, innovation, and originality to Xbox. This mission is achieved by us focusing in the following areas.

You can find the Emerging Creators section of the Xbox dashboard.

Porting:The investment needed to make multiple platform releases can be a distraction for emerging developers. The Developer Acceleration program funding is not recoupable. It does not require exclusive rights or equity from the company. It is designed to assist developers in achieving success by compensating their porting investments. Offers are unique to each developer’s situation and take into account the developer’s need and experience.

Information:Participating developers also get funding. In return, they have access to best practices and information through monthly webinars, called Green Room events. These are where developers can interact with team Xbox members on topics such as game development, marketing tips and certification preparation. Although these topics may not be exclusive to the program they are important to ensure that new teams have the opportunity to meet with experts, ask questions and connect in an informal and friendly environment.

Prototypes:Many developers, especially those who have been underrepresented in the industry, lack access to networks and resources to help them get their ideas off of the ground. A prototype program is being piloted by the Developer Acceleration Program. It aims to partner with promising developers who have great ideas, and offer the support and funding necessary for them to build a prototype that communicates their vision. This funding is not recoupable.

As a way to ensure that our developers are getting the support they need, we’re excited about the announcement of the program. Both players and developers benefit from removing barriers that have been preventing creators from entering the game industry and normalizing different storylines and characters.

We support developers from diverse backgrounds, including those who come from Black, Indigenous or Latino communities. These include independent developers who are working on games that focus responsibly around diversity or prioritize accessibility.

We invite you to get in touch with us if this sounds like you [email protected]. We will be in touch with you to discuss the next steps for your application.
