The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum Gets Big Patch To Address Various PC Performance Issues
The Lords of the Rings: Gollum, which launched in May of this year, had many issues. This made it difficult to play at certain points. Go here to see Game Informer’s Gollum reviews. However, developer Daedalic Entertainment is targeting many of those problems in the game’s PC version with a new patch that’s now live.
Daedalic has published a list of extensive changes to the PC version at the Gollum Steam Page. It’s unclear if any of these changes are coming to the game’s console versions, but Play InformerWe have contacted Daedalic and we will update the story when they respond. For the PC update, there are fixes for issues like quest markers vanishing, interactive objects not being able to be interacted with, bugs within checkpoint systems, and more.
The patch targets both general issues like the ones mentioned above and more specific issues, like fixing the bell in “Thranduil’s Halls – Cellars,” which was automatically placed before players placed it, making progressing the objective impossible.
The complete list of the changes made to The Lord of the Rings Gollum is below.:
- Adjusted DLSS default mode from “off” to “auto” to prevent stuttering and performance issues when playing with RTX without DLSS.
- Fix for a bug with low reproducibility where some parts of the Environment could be missing.
- The quest marker could sometimes disappear after you have continued from the main Menu.
- Fixes an issue that caused interactable items to become uninteractive after restarting.
- Improved stability by fixing bugs with the checkpoint system.
- Correction of the Bird’s color not matching the chosen by the player in the breeding missions.
- Fixed the Bell in “Thranduil’s Halls – Cellars” being placed before the player placed it.
- Fix for a broken interactable in “Thranduil’s Halls – Cellars”.
- Fixes a bug that would cause Gollum’s death if the game was restarted during the conflict with beetles.
- The Pause Menu now works properly when it overlaps with the Game Over screen.
- The issue with losing the mouse focus while opening Settings has been addressed.
- The guard was able to see the player in the Tower of Light after they spawned.
- Increased the chase radius for the “Cruel Woman” chase to prevent save games where the player cannot keep up anymore.
- Fixed a locked camera issue in the cart sequence in the “Sewers”.
- Improved Bird Training Spy Mission, Morning Visits and fixing bugs.
- Resolved missing environment issues in “Tower of Light”.
- Fixe cogwheels spinning randomly in all directions
- Fixing nervous hands behavior
- Adjusting DLSS modes and sharpness after loading a previously saved version.
- Sewers: Fixed a background sequence that caused blocker behavior.
- Fixes for the background of all sequences.
- When restarting the game from the menu, the Game Over screen was displayed.
- Fixes a potential bypass that could have caused a blocking in Tower of Light Day 6.
- Softlock fix in Shadow Mountains for jumping off of a cliff when a checkpoint is active.
- Great Halls Low Day 1, checkpoint required added
- Fixes a malfunctioning trigger on Beast Pits Day 3
- After quitting Gamma, the menus will no longer respond.
- Fix for the Black Pits cart unloaded sublevel problem
- Halls of Grond & Execution chambers – fixed and adjusted rotating wheels.
- Fixed extra camera shakes.
- Gollum Groom now has the correct translucency, but still maintains DOF.
- Fixes the possibility of ending Sewers by killing only one orc.
- Some localization issues have been resolved.
- Fix excessive camera rotation during frame drops.
- No sound was heard in the final cutscene featuring Cook’s demise.
- Fix for missing sublevel in KingsGrove when the Escape Orcs quest began.
- The tutorial checkpoint problem in the Chase mission has been resolved.
- The German menu option was displayed incorrectly as French.
- Fixed several VO subtitle inconsistencies.
- After initial loading of the game, you can now use Pause Menu.
- Update animation when Gollum’s position is changed by another character crouching.
- The Food Tutorial in German, traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese now includes the missing “Hold”.
- The environment was unloading before the 3rd Tunnel in Mines Day 2.
- The level ending will remove redundant collectibles.
- Fix for the puzzle door that is unresponsive when loaded from Main Menu.
- When starting from a checked point, the progress is no longer blocked after the throttle tutorial.
- Fix Gollum floating in the Chapter 2 beginning.
- Fix for a bug in Outer Gardens, where Gollum was detected as soon as it spawned.
- Gollum remained in his shadow form, even when he exited the shadow volume.
- Fixed softlock in “Queen Cascades” where it’s possible to avoid quest dialog when loading checkpoint.
- Fixes missing Mell Water Spot VFX on loading Checkpoint.
- The missing Grashneg lamp issue has been fixed when loading the checkpoints at Shelob’s Lair.
- Fix for unresponsive collectible / map screen after spamming the open/close buttons.
- Gollum’s improved navigation of NPCs.
- Fixes a conditional blocking when returning to Haze Gate after a haze.
- Kings Grove – Fixed incorrect quest marker while loading checkpoint.
- The quest marker was missing and the wrong location of spawn, as well. This issue occurred at a certain checkpoint.
- Wall running does not trigger correctly.
- Riverpath fixed invisible 2 elves’ issue at the end of the level.
- NorthTower improved the visual effects of its flying platform.
- Fixes a blocker conditional in Breeding Hills after the NPC spy mission group stopped moving.
- Riverpath now has a new intuition path that is missing, and a previously incorrectly located intuition path.
- When switching from Main Menu, the door in Ruins Outside no longer malfunctions.
- Fix incorrect Visit Number in Cells if you return the lights to the chef with an incorrect visit number.
- The NPCs of Tower of Light Day 9 no longer forget Gollum upon returning to Main Menu.
- Fix punctuation for Lore Compendium.
- The flickering input hint issue has been resolved.
- Fixed the title remaining unresponsive when opening the Pause Menu while selecting Gollum or Sméagol before the inner debate.
- Synced Data for DLSS support, setting Fidelity fx2 at 0 when DLSS is false.
- Blockers fixed in North Tower while reloading and trying to use the winch when loading a checkpoint.
- Localization files missing have been added.
- The groom will no longer fluctuate while the game is in pause.
- Bird Breeding: Fixed a bug wherein the inquisitor would not move, or the dialogue wouldn’t play when you reloaded a checkpoint.
- Ruins Outside now has a working dialog for the door puzzle.
- The issue of Gollum being unable to continue climbing afterward due to falling from stamina while turning the bar was fixed.
- On the 2nd visit, we fixed the missing environment in Kings Garden.
- Fixed misplaced damage volume in Kings Garden.
- When the controller disconnects, input is discarded.
- Addition to the input for closing the message of the disconnected device.
- The bush did not restore its previous state after loading a new checkpoint.
- When loading a Checkpoint, the environment was missing in Mirkwood Chase.
- The conditional lockout in Mines was fixed when you restarted after picking the last tag.
- Reloading the Sewers delivery bridge now works properly.
- Sewers incorrectly scaled to the wrong Grashneg.
- The Construction Low screen will no longer show an endless game over when you sweep through a certain checkpoint.
- The door was in the wrong position when you switched from Tower of Light Bird Breeding.
- The incorrect camera spline was resolved in Shelob’s Lair during the second chase.
The patch is available a few months after Daedalic released a statement apologizing for the game’s various issuesThe patch promises to fix them as quickly as possible. It remains to be seen if this patch fixes all of Gollum’s performance issues, but it’s certainly a great start if the extent of these patch notes is anything to go on.
