The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Gameplay Trailer Shows Off Four Of Link’s New Abilities

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom development is complete.

Eiji Aonuma (Legend of Zelda series producer) revealed the news during today’s Tears of the Kingdom gameplay demo. Aonuma revealed this just before he got into the game. He also showed off over 10 minutes of brand new gameplay. Aonuma starts this gameplay demo showing Link how he can reach the Sky Islands above Hyrule. To recall the movement of a fallen rock, he uses “Recall”, which can rewind an object’s movements. This new power allows him to access one of the floating islands in the sky.

We learn from fighting an opponent up there that weapon durability is back, which was a controversial feature of The Legend of Zelda. Breath of the Wild. You can now use Link’s “Fuse” ability, to make new weapons. Aonuma demonstrated how to combine a branch and a rock into a small hammer. He promised that this ability would allow you to do many things. It is possible to fuse different weapons and create homing and other arrows by fusing them together.

Aomuna’s conversation about fuse morphed into a discussion on Tears of the Kingdom, which introduced vehicle creation (or something called “Ultahand”). While creative players created all kinds of “vehicles” in Breath of the Wild, it seems Tears of the Kingdom’s Ultrahand will help us all create new ways to get around Hyrule’s plains, rivers, and more. Aomuna builds a boat for crossing a body.

We also learn of Link’s new ability, “Ascend.” If there is a ceiling over Link, Link can ascend to anything above it. You can use this to climb into caves or through enclosures.

This is just one taste of Tears of the Kingdom, which will take place in May.

The gameplay demonstration is below.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be available on Switch starting May 12. It will also cost $70, a first for Nintendo. The Collector’s Edition is available and the new Link amiibo are available if you’re really excited about this game. Tears of the Kingdom trailer shows cars, homingarrows and rail grinding.
