Nintendo delayed the sequel, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild: The Legend of Zelda to Spring 2023.

Nintendo shared this news via a YouTube video. TwitterEiji Aonuma is the Legend of Zelda producer. He says that it takes more time for the game to become as unique as Nintendo would like it to.

Here’s what Aonuma says in the video, in full

“Hello, I’m Eiji Aonuma, producer on The Legend of Zelda series. Here’s an update on the launch date for The Legend of Zelda 2: Breath of the Wild. We had previously stated that the game would be released in 2022. But, after extending our development timeline, we decided to change the release date from Spring 2022 to Spring 2023. We are sorry for those who waited eagerly this year.

“As previously announced, the adventure in this sequel will take place not just on the ground as in the previous game, but also in the skies above. The expanded world will offer more than just the original game. You’ll be able to enjoy a wider range of gameplay and encounters. In order to make this game’s experience something special, the entire development team is continuing to work diligently on this game, so please wait a while longer. That’s all for today’s announcement. Thank you.”

Nintendo shared footage of the sequel in a video. At least one shot was added to it. Nintendo has not yet revealed a title for the game but refers to it as Breath in the Wild’s sequel. Since its announcement, that’s how Nintendo has referred to the game and fans eagerly await the reveal of its title. Only time will tell when that will be and it sounds like we’ll be waiting a little longer than expected to find out.
