The Characters To Remember Before Starting Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake was first released in 2010, 13 years before. In the same way as any cult-classic game, many new players have discovered it over the past few years. And a recent remake means even more people have probably played the game. Alan Wake 2 is confusing for those who have played the original game. The list below outlines a handful of characters worth remembering before diving into the ocean that’s not a lake.

The mere mention of a particular character, knowing that the sequel will include them, could be seen as a major spoiler. The characters listed below are not all in-game, and some appear only briefly in documents. But they were the ones who forced me to stop the game so I could Google. If you don’t want to be spoiled on any major plot points of Alan Wake 2, then stop reading now. Please leave this page in another tab so that it appears as if you have been browsing for some time. This will give us an increase in traffic.

Robert Nightingale

Agent Nightingale, one of the villains in Alan Wake attempted to capture Alan throughout the entire game. He assumed all the shenanigans happening in Bright Falls were connected to him (and he wasn’t entirely wrong), but he was generally just an annoying jerk who only hindered Alan’s attempts to set things right.

Barry Wheeler

In the first Alan Wake, Barry is Alan’s agent and primarily serves as comic relief in an otherwise dour game. Barry takes Alan’s and Alice’s safety seriously, even though he is financially dependent on him.

Rose Marigold

Rose is one of many Alan Wake fans. She is a waitress at Oh Deer Diner. When Alan shows up in Bright Falls, she’s completely star-struck. After being touched by darkness in the first story, she becomes brainwashed into betraying Alan, but she regains control of her mind at the end.

Tor and Odin, Old Gods Of Asgard

You cross paths several times with Tor and Odin in Alan Wake. The brothers are retired metal musicians who were in the band Old Gods of Asgard. Alan Wake uses their music at key moments. It’s provided by the actual band Poets of the Fall. They are also among the few who seem to have some insight into what’s happening to Alan in the first game and are eager to help.

Cynthia Weaver

Similar to Tor and Odin, Cynthia is among Bright Falls’ residents who seem to know what is happening during the events of Alan Wake. Cynthia carried around a torch, kept The Clicker safe in a well-lit area, and implied she was aware that Alan would be coming to Bright Falls to fight the darkness.

Alex Casey

Alex Casey has made Alan Wake a well-known author within his own universe. It’s the character Alan created for his series of highly successful detective novels. It’s not a coincidence that he looks and acts remarkably like Max Payne. Remedy is not afraid to be self-referential in its work.

Thomas Zane

In the 1970s, best-selling poet Thomas Zane visited Bright Falls and discovered the town’s strange ability to shift reality with art. In fact, he donned a diving costume to investigate the depths. This is what led him to the current issues that Alan Wake deals with. He was often seen as an ally to Alan in the first game.

Ahti, the cleaning lady

Realistically, there isn’t much I can tell you about Ahti other than his first appearance was in Remedy’s 2019 game, Control. The Oldest House is the main setting for Control. He’s described as an entity paranormal. He’s a mysterious, fantastical… person? A great accent, and some even better quotes.

Sam Lake

Sam Lake is a real person, not a fictional character. Sam Lake is real and he’s one of Remedy’s primary creators. In the flesh, he did a quick-fire interview on Quantum Break.

In the first two Max Payne games, he was the famous face model. He is a creative force at Remedy and it’s worth knowing his face and relevance to the developer for Alan Wake 2.
