The best thrillers to watch on Netflix in August 2023
Polygon Readers, Happy August.
We’re getting close to the end of summer (and summer movies), but that also means we’re getting close to the end of the post-Barbenheimer drought at the box office. But there’s no drought at home, with plenty of fun movies to choose from, all from the comfort of your couch.
Every month we feature five excellent thrillers that you can stream on Netflix. We have five great thrillers on Netflix this month. One is a Netflix Original, one was added recently, another movie that’s relevant for multiple upcoming movies, and a few others are under the radar.
Enjoy! Here are the five picks for this month. Enjoy!
Heart of Stone

Year: 2023
Run time: 2h 2m
Director: Tom Harper
Cast: Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan, Alia Bhatt
It’d be understandable if you entered Netflix’s latest action blockbuster with some skepticism. Big-budget movies Red Warning The following are some examples of how to get started: Gray Man They were both slogs. Star Gal Gadot is stuck in her rut. Wonder Woman 1984 The following are some examples of how to get started: Red Warning Both stealing the shine off the first Wonder Woman.
The following are some of the ways to get in touch with each other Heart of Stone This is a fun spy thriller that takes you around the world! It’s Gadot’s best performance since Wonder Woman, as the movie’s premise plays into her strengths. Gadot plays Rachel Stone, an extremely skilled agent who poses as a quiet tech specialist on a MI6 team. The role allows Gadot to shy away from the banter-heavy scripts she’s been tasked with recently, and leans on her skills as a screen fighter.
It’s the action that really makes Heart of Stone Fun spy thriller. It’s a fun spy thriller. It has some of the most impressive car chases of all time.
Ben & Jody

Year: 2022
Run time: 1h 54m
Director: Angga Dwimas Sasongko
Cast: Chicco Jerikho, Rio Dewanto, Yayan Ruhian
The summer is the perfect time to get out and enjoy some hard-hitting outdoor action with your buddies. Ben & Jody Both are available in abundance.
The latest in a long line of excellent Indonesian action films (which all seem to star the reliable and prolific Yayan Ruhian). Ben & Jody The story follows two best friends as they join forces to help oppressed villages fight a violent group of loggers who want to steal the land. Although the film has many action sequences it’s carried by the friendship between its two protagonists who stop at nothing for one another.
The One
Image: Columbia Pictures/Everett Collection
Year: 2001
Run time: 1h 27m
Director: James Wong
Cast: Jet Li, Jet Li, Jet Li, Jet Li, Jet Li, Carla Gugino, Delroy Lindo, Jason Statham
Hollywood is infected by Multiversal Madness. It’s All Here, Everywhere at Once All the Oscars at Once Across the Spider-Verse The MCU has tapped into the DC multiverse, while the DC and MCU have also dipped a toe in. Jet Li’s unbridled action is hard to beat. The One.
You can also find out more about the following: The OneJet Li has played many Jet Lis. There’s a Canadian Jet Li. A Rastafarian Jet Li. An evil Jet Li. Jet Li, a cop. Jet Li, the evil Jet Li, is travelling between worlds and killing all Jet Lis he meets, as it will give him more power. It’s down to the final good Jet Li to stop him.
If all those reasons weren’t enough, take a closer look at the image above. That’s Jason Statham! It’s Jason Statham! Yes, multiversal movies aren’t the only current relevance for The One; it’s Meg 2 season, too.
The soundtrack of early-2000s numetal is a great accompaniment to Jet Li’s kicks that send humans flying like soccer ball.
Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift
Image: Universal/Everett Collection
Year: 2006
Run time: 1h 44m
Director: Justin Lin
Cast: Lucas Black, Sung Kang, Bow Wow
Yes, we are stretching the definition of “thriller” here. But the Fast and Furious series offers many thrills, and for my money, there’s no better entry than Tokyo Drift.
The franchise was unfairly maligned due to its differences from others. Tokyo Drift This is the most realistic racing experience in the series. Justin Lin makes the best of Tokyo’s vibrant nightlife colors, which gives the film a distinct tone. The franchise has grown, and its vision of what the series can be is more strict. Sonny Chiba himself is in the movie. You can’t get that much better than that.
You can impress your friends with this fun fact: contrary to popular belief Tokyo Drift is not the debut for Sung Kang’s Han Lue character. That actually came all the way back in 2002, in Lin’s masterful coming-of-age movie Good Luck Tomorrow. Lin was first hired by Tokyo DriftThe rest is franchise history.
Day Shift
Parrish Lews/Netflix
Year: 2022
Run time: 1h 53m
Director: J.J. Perry
Cast:Jamie Foxx Dave Franco and Snoop dogg
Day Shift It’s a wonderful genre-hybrid and throwback to an era when medium-budget movies were made. Jamie Foxx plays a vampire hunter on the outs with his union, and he’s looking for a big score… but is paired with an incompetent desk jockey (Dave Franco).
It’s the debut film of J.J. Perry as director. He uses contortionists, inventive camera tricks and other stuntmen to bring some new moves to vampires. And that makes it even more relevant to watch this month: This week’s big release at the box office is the campy vampire thriller The Last Voyage of the DemeterThe upcoming DC film was shot by Perry and. Blue Beetle.
