40 Giants Entertainment from South Brazil is an indie gaming company. This game was co-produced with Hype Animation, Jambo Edita and Jambo Editora. Yo-Ho Muzic Arsenal provided music and sound design, while 1C Entertainment published the game. The development of the game began in 2017. Now, we’re publishing it on Xbox!
This is an important occasion, given all the years Xbox has been a part of our lives and all the incredible RPG and tactical games that we have played on it. Many fond memories. We’ve always been passionate about the genre, and when we decided to develop our own game, we knew we would face a lot of challenges during the development process that I would like to talk about in this blog post. First, I want to tell you about what. Reverie Knights Tactics This is what it’s all about.
Reverie Knights Tactics This tactical turn-based RPG features strategic battles on isometric grids. Every decision you make can affect the story, NPC reactions, and how your characters are customized. Through the treasures found on your journeys across a fantasy realm, you will be able to craft unique items and equipment. This epic adventure is based on Tormenta RPG Campaign setting. Every character can choose from a variety of abilities and depending on the circumstances, may perform special team attacks. To alter the outcome of encounters, you can use interactive elements as well as crafted consumable items.
Game Design
Creating and balancing the core systems – battles, character progression and skills – was the hardest part to get right. Because of the variety of choices that players have in regards to character customization, side quests, decision-driven stories and branching storylines, each battle’s difficulty can be very different. It was important that each level’s abilities were both useful and interesting, so players can create unique strategies based upon their play style.

On top of that, every battle has extra objectives and each one of them grants the player some extra experience; managing the progression and level capstone to fit the game’s difficulty was hard and demanded lots of playtests and spreadsheets. Level Design is another subject. Every battle was first drawn on a grid. Then, the engine built the level design. This allows the players (and their enemies) to create or block new paths, control and damage each other, and to ensure that every scenario feels and looks different.

There’s an awareness system in place that lets the player walk unseen through the grid, as long the character remains far enough from the enemy’s line of sight. Every battle offers a new set of additional objectives to encourage the player to do more, such as exploring the situation and performing certain tasks for extra experience.

A special alignment system is also available in the game, which is based on key story decisions. This allows your character to move closer towards chaos or order. The story branching out from this point will affect the reactions of other characters towards you, which can impact battles or dialogues. Your strategy options will change as a result of these decisions.
But it’s not just the gameplay design that sets Reverie Knights Tactics Apart from being a game, it’s also:
The artwork
As the game’s illustrator, this is a subject near and dear to my heart. All the artworks in the game were hand-drawn – nearly 400 sheets of paper were necessary to cover the entire game, and I did every single drawing with a mechanical pencil, using HB leads.
Over 20 years of illustration experience. I’ve worked on CD covers and packaging designs, as well as comics and other advertising. What I’m currently doing Reverie Knights TacticsIt was a wonderful experience, and one of my best in the field.

Because of their many layers and the number of details, drawing battle scenes was one of the most difficult parts of the project. It took me hours to draw on weekends and weekdays. My wife and my cats didn’t like that so much, but I hope you will agree it was worth it as you play the game. It is important to mention that I was aided by Marcel Budde, Leonardo Tomazi and Carolina Mylius who assisted me with the sketches of the scenario assets. Carolina Mylius also did amazing coloring over my drawings.
The characters were great, and it was wonderful to make new characters in the Tormenta universe which is very popular here. It took me a long time to create their silhouettes and to identify the distinctive traits that would make each character stand out.
