The Alters Leverages The Power Alternate Selves

11 Bit Studios, the developer behind This War of Mine, Frostpunk, and Children of Morta, is making something new and a bit more surreal. The Alters is a sci-fi adventure where one man trying to survive and get home from a mission that’s gone wrong finds all the help he needs in himself. Hesitation.

Jan Dolski (the main character) turns to The Alternatives. These alternate versions of themselves differ from Jan in ways that can help them all survive. Although they look identical to Jan Dolski, the Alters have their own skills and characteristics. They will each play specific roles on Jan’s mission. The trailer depicts Jan and The Alts’ ship. This is a large wheel-like vessel with several shipping container units that are held in the middle.

During the presentation, 11 Bit Studios’ Lead Artist Tomasz Kisikewicz says the game has aspects of a psychological thriller, with a dash of horror, but also obviously deals with surrealism. The game is also a classic science-fiction story because it takes a familiar topic and applies these fiction science solutions to create alternate selves. But the gameplay is modern with an emphasis on system design and nonlinear gameplay. This game allows players to tell their stories.
