Test your Zelda map knowledge ahead of Tears of the Kingdom

You could also test your knowledge by taking the Test Your Knowledge of The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild’s massive map using HyruleGuessr, a spin on the real-world GeoGuessr game.

GeoGuessr is a simple game. The original version pulls up an image from Google Street View and asks the user to guess where the image was captured. The players drop pins on the world map to indicate their answers. There are tricks to it, of course — street signs or well-known landmarks can be tells for an area. HyruleGuessr follows the same simple principle but uses a different map. Breath of Wild’s Hyrule.

There’s five rounds of HyruleGuessr, each showing a screenshot of Link looking out into Hyrule. It could be the lush jungles of Faron, or the marshes and wetlands of Lanayru. Is that Thundra Plateau, where it’s always storming? Or maybe that’s the strange, inverted trees of Ludfo’s Bog. Once you’ve got an answer, you mark it onto the Hyrule map and move onto the next round. You’re scored according to how close your guess is to the actual location.

Nimarzel, the creator of HyruleGuessr said that it was inspired by an identical game played in a Discord chat room. The map dimension estimates are based on a Reddit post by EngineeringHyrule, according to the description on the game website’s about page.

HyruleGuessr offers players the option to alter the parameters of the games, for example by setting the guessing time. Other users have created challenges to test Hyrule knowledge, and there’s a ranked mode with three games of increasing difficulty — leaderboard included. Users can also submit screenshots that will be added to the collection.
