Tears of the Kingdom is coming, and Polygon’s Zeldathon is already here
Shigeru Miyamoto was a young man who discovered a cave in Japan during 1950s Japan. He returned to the cave with a lantern after some hesitation and ventured in. As they say, the rest is history.
Polygon has announced a Zeldathon for 2023. Follow us as we journey through The Legend of Zelda, starting with the 1986 original game and ending in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.
The Legend of Zelda was born from this one act of child curiosity. The series is about discovering strange worlds, and exploring their deeper depths. Miyamoto was one of the first to achieve video game superstardom, alongside Koji Kondo and Eiji Aonuma. This has had a profound impact on everything, from open-world epics to action-adventure games to role-playing and role-playing titles. Video games are what we all know today because of it.
In conjunction with the May publication of Tears of the Kingdom: Zelda’s LegendPolygon will launch Zeldathon, an online series about the franchise that explores every aspect of it. We’ll revisit the older games, point you toward the best places to play them, explore the series’ ongoing influence on the video games of today, and, in keeping with Miyamoto’s curious spirit, go down any rabbit holes we stumble upon in the process.
We’re kicking things off with our first story next week. We’ll then publish new stories every week in the lead-up to Tears from the Kingdom’s release, and every week after that. Get a lantern, light the jars and come along on our adventure.
