What exactly is included in this expansion? Answer: Hundreds of hours worth of content added to an already massive base game. Let’s break down what you’re getting.  

New Story from a Distant Land

After saving Kamura from the Calamity Monster Hunter Rise, you cross paths with Fiorayne, a knight of the royal Kingdom (as well as Rondine’s sister). Together, you’ll sail to her homeland of the Kingdom – a land threatened by the emergence of monsters that have become unusually violent.

Step into Elgado Outpost, your new base. You’ll meet colorful characters who can help you with your quest. You will fight together against the most powerful monsters to solve the mystery that threatens the kingdom.

The Kingdom of Monsters

At the forefront of Sunbreak’s new monsters are the dangerous Three Lords: the hulking Garangolm, the chilling wolf-like Lunagaron, and the game’s flagship monster, Malzeno. The sinister Elder Dragon Malzeno is at the heart of the monsters’ mysterious behavior in Sunbreak. You’ll come face-to-face with this regal and bloodthirsty threat as you hunt your way through the dangers that await.

Sunbreak includes several familiar monsters. These include the spikey and thorned flying Wyvern Espinas; the electric-charged Astalos; and Gore Magala, a fan favourite.

Master Rank’s monster list is increasingly diverse with the introduction of subspecies. Oh, and monsters that are already in the base game will return in Master Rank with new moves as well, so even if you’ve got some fights down already, you’ll have to contend with plenty of surprises.

The Battlefields of New York

You’ll hunt these monsters across two new locales. It is located in a vast new area centered on a magnificent old castle. It’s a varied environment, ranging from forest-covered areas, icy mountains, and old ruins lit by pink and purple moonlight. The Jungle will be familiar for fans of the Monster Hunter series. It’s rich with relaxing waterside areas and scenic greenery, but don’t let its peaceful vibes fool you.

A Hunting Experience Expanded

It’s only fair that you also get to learn some new tricks if the monsters in Master Rank have more. Monster Hunter Rise: SunbreakBuilds on your existing abilities to give you even more tools.

Silkbind Moves are available for all 14 weapons, which allows you to customize your gameplay. Dual Blades have, for example, a Silkbind Move named Spiral Slash that sends them flying like a drill into the enemies. Switch Axe receives Elemental Burst Counter Silkbind Move. It allows players to build up a burst counter and unleash it when the monsters attack.

With so many options for moves, you’ll now be able to change your Switch Skill sets on the fly, with the Switch Skill Swap. Switch between the two sets as you hunt. When switching sets, you’ll do a swap evade in any direction, allowing you to maintain strong positioning against the monster. 

There’s plenty more to discover in Sunbreak, including new types of endemic life that will come in handy in a tight spot. Try the Marionette Spider, which can latch onto monsters and pull them against a wall. You’ll find them on both new and existing locales from the base game. 

Join your new friends to hunt!

Monster Hunter Rise: SunbreakYou can go on a hunting trip with friends in both Kamura or Elgado. In the single-player only Follower Collab Quests, you’ll be able to hunt with allies from Elgado like Fiorayne and Luchika, as well as friends from Kamura like Hinoa, Minoto, and more.

Each of the Followers have their own weapons and attacks that they’re most proficient at using, and you can help pick their loadouts to match your hunting style. You can recruit characters for Surveys by completing Follower Quests. Eventually, you’ll be able to take them on nearly every quest in the game.

All content from Free Title Update 3, including the massive expansion, will be available. The expansion will include a host of new features, including new gameplay mechanics, new locations, new Event Quests and more monsters. You can now take on Lucent Nargacuga, the mysterious Lucent Nargacuga, in the new Forlorn arena location, the unpredictable and powerful Chaotic Gore Magiala or the Anomaly Investigations at the endgame to strengthen your equipment.

Risen Elder Dragons is also one of the hardest challenges you can face in this game. Take on Risen Chameleos, Risen Kushala Daora, and Risen Teostra if you’re looking to test your hunting prowess. Wish you luck!

This doesn’t mark the end of updates, however. There are still more updates. Monster Hunter Rise: SunbreakLater this summer, a new version of the game with even more difficult monsters and added endgame features will be released.
