Although I love horror movies, it is not enough to make me scream. Jump scares are all well and good for a quick startle, but I’m always looking for those experiences that will stick with me long after the credits roll. I’m talking Silent Hill 2, or “Paranormal Activity” There are levels of terror psychological! It is a daily reality! Stray Souls came across my desk, within the first 10 minutes, I knew that the folks over at Jukai Studio were my… Souls-mates. Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

Stray Souls This is the story about Daniel, a typical 18-year old living in a very unusual situation. After inheriting the home of his estranged grandmother, he thinks he’s got it made, with a place to finally call his own and the independence that comes with it. But his happiness is fleeting when he learns that he couldYou don’t need to live alone.

The truth is that Grandma kept some big secrets. Fortunately for Daniel, his nosy neighbor Martha knows quite a bit about what’s going on in his home. UnfortunatelyDaniel’s nightmare is just the beginning.

As Daniel, Martha and you embark on a journey to discover the truth about your past. Each piece of the puzzle leads you closer to the truth, but you’ll encounter dark forces at every turn all too happy to try and stop you.

Like any good horror game, you’ll get to face off against hordes of gruesome baddies, but what separates Stray Souls The difference between this game and others in its genre is the fact that Daniel is only a teenage soldier, rather than a fully trained soldier. He doesn’t have access to a huge cache of weapons and body armor, which means you’ll need to rely on combat strategy and resource management to survive. If you wish, you can run away from many fights.

Jukai Studio is a student of this genre, and that shows. You can really feel the influence of classic horror games throughout, but modernized for today’s gamer. For example, puzzles. These puzzles can be difficult but easy to solve without the need to search for an answer online. There’s no need to carry around heavy etched crests to find out how to use them.

What attracted me the most? Stray Souls This is what makes the game so scary and tense for players. It never feels safe. Moving in the distance are Apparitions. All around you, snapping branches. Are you looking for something? Aspen Falls is a place where imagination can sometimes be your worst enemy. I love that!

Stray Souls It will be available for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S this fall, and I absolutely cannot wait for everyone to get their hands on it. I’ve never had so much fun working on a game while simultaneously getting the holy heck scared of me every step of the way!
