Stone Cold Steve Austin Stuns Us With A Zelda Reference

When our passions collide, it’s great! I love watching pro wrestling on almost every night of the week. I’ve been a big fan of Stone Cold Steve Austin since he broke out as a mega-star in the 90’s, and since I  know him as a real outdoorsy kind of guy, I never thought he’d be keeping up with what’s popular in the world of gaming. A promo video for an upcoming episode Broken Skull SessionsSteve Austin interview wrestlers and others in the industry at. Steve surprised me when he interviewed Cody Rhodes, WWE’s latest acquisition.

A rapid-fire interview that is used for a commercial Broken Skull SessionsAustin begins by asking Rhodes what Zelda game his favorite is. American Nightmare immediately replied confidently, “Ocarina of Time.” Hands down,” when out of nowhere, Austin shoots back by saying, “No dude, Breath of the Wild.” What?! What!? He is aware of Zelda. WHAT? He is referring to Link. WHAT? THE elf boy holding the sword. WHAT? He fights Ganon. Cody responds by calling Breath of the Wild “bold”

Game Informer respectfully disagrees with both of them, though their choices are solidly in the top three. Our ranking for every Zelda title can be found here.

Cody Rhodes is, as you may not know, a big Zelda fan. You can often find the same Hyrulian relic in his wrestling gear. He also has a triforce tattoo on his ring finger. His return to WWE at this year’s Wrestlemania was even greeted with a quote straight from Ocarina of Time by WWE commentator Corey Graves. His generation is very into video games, just like Cody. Xavier Woods, a fellow WWE Superstar (AKA Austin Creed), has a popular YouTube channel called UpUpDownDown for WWE and is currently a host at the newly revived G4 network. Other wrestlers like AEW’s Adam Cole, Evil Uno, and Kip Sabian as well as former WWE stars Cesaro and Tyler Breeze are all active Twitch streamers.

Stone Cold casually uttering the title of Nintendo’s iconic game is an astonishing moment I surely did not expect to see in 2022, but here we are. Watch the embedded tweet. This is the complete episode Broken Skull Sessions with Cody Rhodes will air on the WWE Network through Peacock this Friday.
