Star Wars tabletop RPG on the way from an experienced team
A new Star Wars tabletop role-playing game is on the way from Asmodee’s Edge Studio. Developers also said they hope to keep the most recent iteration of the game, created by Asmodee’s Fantasy Flight Games, in print. It was announced on Friday.
Since the 1980s there have been multiple versions of the Star Wars tabletop RPG (TTRPG), including a d20-based design by Dungeons & Dragons publisher Wizards of the Coast. Version 2012 saw the release of the most recent version. Star Wars: Edge of the EmpireThen, it was continued by Star Wars: Age of Rebellion Star Wars Force and DestinyThis helped to refocus the game around different aspects of the filmtic timeline.
Sam Gregor Stewart, who was the lead developer of this project in the past, is heading up this new venture. Edge of the EmpireThis is. As the Edge Studio’s RPG manager, he will ensure continuity. But he says that fans shouldn’t expect anything different this time.
“With Edge, I’m really thrilled to have a chance to try something new,” Gregor-Stewart said in the announcement post. “I hope we can create something fresh for our fans, while at the same time creating something that is going to awaken the same passion for Star Wars in a new generation that I felt growing up.”
Edge Studio is also creating a TTRPG based in Fantasy Flight’s Twilight Imperium setting. At Saturday’s Free RPG Day, a 40-page sample was unveiled.
