Star Wars’ new timeline, from Dawn of the Jedi to New Jedi Order

Star Wars’ timeline continues to expand. Star Wars Celebration 2023 was the confirmation that there will be two eras in the Star Wars Cinematic Universe. These eras go back 25,000 years prior to current timeline events, and continue into an unspecified future. Lucasfilm laid out the timeline, in Marvel Cinematic Universe fashion, for an easy guide to when new Star Wars stories will be taking place (but not when they’ll come out).

Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm President, presented an image showing the new timeline that leads from Dawn of the Jedi to the Old Republic through the High Republic, Fall of the Jedi and Reign of the Empire. Age of Rebellion is also shown. New Republic, Rise of the First Order are all included in the picture.

Star Wars will have its earliest age in the Dawn of the Jedi. This film, directed by James Mangold, will explore the subject.Logan, Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny). The untitled Star Wars movie from Mangold will be a “biblical epic” about the emergence of the Force and the first Jedi, in a setting no less than 25,000 years before the events of the original movie trilogy.

That places the Dawn of the Jedi-era before the Old Republic era that many Star Wars fans are familiar with through (de-canonized Legends) stories in books, comics, and video games, like BioWare’s Knights of the Old Republic role-playing games and The Old Republic MMO.

A series of books and comics has explored the later High Republic period in recent years. These stories tell of the Jedi Order’s golden age before it succumbed to institutional rot in the prequel trilogy. In this book, we will explore that phase in the Star Wars timeline.
