Splatoon 3’s best new weapon: Zipcaster

The ink-shooting games SplatoonThe game’s first launch was marked by a unique feature: you could spray paint on walls and swim up the paint with your squid-like character. But Splatoon 3.The latest installment of the series introduces a special weapon, the Zipcaster. This allows you hookshot from one wall to another. It’s a joy to use, and by far one of the best new mechanics in the game.

You will need to spray ink onto the course to recharge the special gauge and activate the power. After activating it, the Inkling and Octoling become dripping with paint and can shoot at walls and hit them with a huge splat. The Inkling or Octoling has a good range and it is the fastest way to travel across, up and down a course. Furthermore, when you land, you don’t need to worry about immediately falling to your death, because you hang on to the wall by default.

Splatoon 2 Grapplinks were introduced by the campaign’s single-player version. But those mechanics had a limited range because you needed to aim for hovering objects that served as anchor points. Zipcaster lets you zip up to any wall at your will.

Splatoon 3’s single-player campaign, some of the levels grant you unlimited charges of the weapon, allowing you to zip around to your heart’s content. In one level I spray painted, flew off a jump and then pointed my Zipcaster in midair. After landing, multiple enemies were killed.

The result is a true Spider-Man moment. We are still waiting to see what the long-term effects of online multiplayer will be, but fans posted video clips showing just how strong it was at the end. Splatoon 3.Splatfest August
