Sony Seemingly Removes Most Traces Of Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake

Sony opened a PlayStation Showcase in September 2021 by officially announcing a rumored PlayStation 5 remake of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic classic RPG. It was then that we last heard about it. Bloomberg The report stated that the project had been put on hold indefinitely due to major departures of staff.

According to reports by, Sony and PlayStation have removed the majority of traces related to the KOTOR remake. They deleted tweets and hidden the reveal trailer in its YouTube channel. Kotaku.

TricolorChutoy, a user on Gaming Leaks And Rumors, posted yesterday that the 2021 PlayStation Showcase KOTOR Remake Reveal Trailer had recently been delisted. The same day Twitter user Crusader II Elessar  posted the same thing, noting, however, that in the full 2021 PlayStation Showcase video, the KOTOR remake trailer remained. Crusader II Elessar did some digging and found out that PlayStation has deleted all tweets mentioning the remake except for one that mentions the other games.

Using the Wayback Machine, the team discovered that a snapshot from 2022 of PlayStation Twitter still showed a tweet that was exclusive to KOTOR, indicating that it had been deleted between this year and last.

Game InformerHas contacted Sony and PlayStation regarding the deleted tweets, hidden trailer, and has updated this article if a comment is made.

Aspyr Media, the developer of the Remake is a likely source for any speculation as to why PlayStation may be taking this action. Aspyr, owned by Embracer Group has recently been closing down studios and cancelling games in response to a “restructuring plan.” After Embracer Group was “informed that one major strategic partnership that has been negotiated for seven months will not materialize,” or in other words, the collapse of a $2 billion deal as reported by Video Games ChronicleThis restructuring program was implemented by the company.

In light of all this, it would not be surprising if Aspyr – which Embracer Group bought in 2021 – was affected by restructuring and that the KOTOR project is canceled. As yet, there has been no official confirmation of the project.
